Faye Dunaway returning to Broadway this summer

WTF?  Is Matthew Lombardo re-imagining this for Dunaway?  Act 1 takes place in 1938 (featuring the young Katharine Hepburn) and Act 2 takes place in 1983 with the older Katharine Hepburn. No way in Hell is Dunaway going to be convincing as the younger Hepburn.  

Also of note, the play was written for Kate Mulgrew, who premiered it at Hartford Stage in 2002 and who was barely 47 years old so she was able to be convincing as the young and older Hepburn.

Faye is a remarkable actress. Id love to see her back on stage with an original character or one she can inhabit rather than trying to mimic Hepburn. This seems very campy, like the premise for a play. I hope it works out.

Thanks, BroadwayGuy12.  These streamlined 90-minute plays are annoying.  I saw this in 2002 and having the 2 versions of Hepburn was a true showcase for Mulgrew.  Watching her capture the young Hepburn in Act 1, then blowing us away with the older Hepburn in Act 2.   It was a true actor's showcase.

As best as I can recall the only major Hollywood actor who recently took on Broadway who wasn't roasted by the critics was Tom Hanks in Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy. This play will be even more demanding. Good luck to Faye, always a superior actress, and let's hope she has a great director.

Dunaway as Hepburn?  Oh yeah!  Now  this  is something I will travel cross-country to see.  Very exciting.

It will have to be streamlined. Dunaway will probably keep the audience waiting an additional 40 minutes after the published curtain time before she is ready to perform.
