this will more then likely be the "out of town" for this show before it moves to Broadway next season

Thanks for all of your different seating experiences and the photo.  I may make a trek up from L.A. to see this.  Any other insights into area and seat choices?

Those are probably the cheap seats. It's mostly a run-way stage, it is best to side somewhere in the center, on the side. Also, people want to be close so they're a part of the commotion.

Was anyone else underwhelmed by this? While the physical production was fantastic, after such rave reviews I found the play itself a major letdown. And honestly, sitting on the floor for a long drawn out 2:50, even the physical production gets tiresome, especially in the second act which is mostly dialogue. The space is too big too, the pics of london look better.

Thursday afternoon was a student matinee and I felt the educational nature of the piece is much more suited towards them. I found the jumping between all these characters stories jarring and confusing. Nothing surprising about the plot and nothing that you don't already read about in the news. I really thought this was going to be quite affecting, but the way it's written it's hard to see how one could be "sobbing" at this. Now there's some real virtue signaling.

Were there any actual seats in the orchestra, or sit on the floor?

Predominantly benches.  May have conventional seating in the gallery.

Just pre-ordered for my SF group today.  We will be seated in the front two rows of the mezzanine on April 11 at 7pm.  I have been told that the Curran stage will be extended into the house and that extension will be eight feet above the house floor, thus making both the loge and mezzanine significantly closer to the play area.  Floor/seating plan looks very similar to what is (was?) at St. Ann's.  Currently 600 seat capacity is predicted.  As to prices, it appears that they run $145 to $89, but that may be subject to change prior to public sale.  I believe that our group price for the center mezzanine seats will be $109 each, but contract is still pending.   Discounts should be 10% for a group of 10 to 39 people and 20% for 40 and above people.  I have no idea if there will be any individual discounts offered for rush, student, seniors, etc.

Query: does anyone know the prices for the seats at the NYC engagement?  I'm very curious about them vis-a-vis the SF run.

I paid $41 plus $3 in fees for a seat in Kuwait. Seats on cushions were $35, I think. And bench seats closer to the walkways were considered premium and slightly more than what I paid, maybe $51? Hope that helps.

Thanks.  Tickets were just released to the general public today and range from a low of $59 to a high of $155.  So much for thinking SF would be comparable or lower!

My group ended up being $89 a seat in the first two rows of the mezzanine.  I was allowed up to 28 tickets.

Has anyone heard anything?  Is this coming to Broadway or Off Broadway for a run?

Had a conversation with several of the cast members about a week ago - they've all been approached as to their availability for a return to NYC after San Francisco, but they have no idea in what capacity. If they do it they need to act fast though, as a lot of the actors visas only cover a year from their entering the country and depending on the cheeto they might not be able to renew (especially the performers from Syria, who play major parts in the cast)

These were the usual prices I found during the St. Ann's run but I'm not sure how much seats in Ethiopia went for. Those $76 premium seats that increased to $86 for the extension. By some miracle, I had actually won a TodayTix Saturday matinee during the last week and it was $20 ($27.55 with fees) and was seated on the Egypt - cushions on the platform with wall support.

I was surprised and a little bit dismayed that the SF tickets were so expensive!! Also, why are matinees $10 more than the evening shows??

Your guess is as good as mine re the matinee prices.

Will be very interesting to see if the show does as well as it did in London and NYC.  Dear Evan Hansen has been the only real hot ticket at the Curran since it reopened.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Of chorus, Carol Shorenstein Hays has more money than God and can afford to take a financial hit for her vision of the Curran programming IMHO.  Once Harry Potter and Co. is ensconced any red ink on her ledgers should turn to black.

The one thing that may help this play draw is the reduced number of seats. A 600-seat theater makes it comparable to the Berkeley Rep, which sells pretty well with less commerical fare (although the Berkeley Rep has season ticket holders). Since the Curran reopened, it has sold well for two shows - Fun Home and Dear Evan Hansen. It's almost impossible for those musicals not to do well. I've been there for most of the other Curran shows, and they haven't drawn well. That's worked out well for me, as I have seen some musicals I enjoyed for $30 in good orchestra seats.

Those days are about to end with the impending arrival of Harry Potter for however long it stays. I'll miss the Curran, and I'm curious about The Jungle.

I still maintain that DEH has been the only truly hot ticket at the Curran.  I believe that it sold out the instant that it was announced and could very well be running six months or much more.  Fun Home also had help selling tickets because people were curious to see the Curran remodeling.  Don't know if the Tony wins had much to do with the "wanna see" factor.  My group count was low for Fun Home, but DEH sold like crazy - and within about 48 hours after announcing it (I usually set 4 weeks until an order deadline).

The Jungle is currently selling moderately well with my Don Gregory Presents group, with a total order of 28 seats to sell.  That is a lower count than I usually book, but my reasoning is because it is a heavy drama and my patrons prefer full-out musicals.

And incidentally, DGP is just a hobby of mine (since 1976), not a business.

Pee Ess:  did you know that Mean Girls and The Band's Visit are already officially set for SHN-San Francisco's 2019-2020 season at the Golden Gate theatre?

Depending on how this does in SF, there is 100% a commercial run happening in NYC immediately after. It’s all but built into everyone’s contracts.

Has anyone seen this at the Curran in San Francisco yet? If so, is it worth it to pay extra to sit on the floor?

I'm seeing fewer Goldstar discounts for The Jungle (probably since there are fewer seats), and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it to pay full price.

Also, spoiler request, I saw that the production uses gunshots. Are we talking something fairly contained, or waving a gun at the audience a la Assassins?

I saw The Jungle last night. It's an extraordinary show, unsettling, upsetting, and immersive in the best ways. We got lucky, scoring tickets in Section C (the Sudan section) with rush tickets. One of the many things I will miss about the Curran when Harry Potter takes over is the theater's willingness to give out excellent seats to rush ticket buyers.

The cast is wonderful. Ben Turner is compelling as Salar, an Afghan refugee who proudly sets up a restaurant in the refugee camp. Ammar Haf Ahmad, as Safi, is an engaging narrator from Syria. John Pfumojena is extraordinary as the young Okot, who is haunted and haunting. Several cast members are actual refugees from the Calais camp where the playwrights, Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson, worked (and set up a theater). The British characters are inherently less interesting, but their interactions with the refugees are important. As the play progresses, its structure grows more predictable, undercutting its impact just a bit. But the actors carry the day, and the cumulative impact of the experience is heartrending.

One other strength of the show: The playwrights' sympathies are clearly with the refugees, but it's not nearly as preachy as I thought it might be. The main refugee characters, Salar and Safi in particular, are three-dimensional people - not just symbols. The camp itself can be a scary place.

Suggestions and warnings: Sitting at floor level, with chaos around me a lot of the time, is the best way to see this show. I basically felt sorry for the folks in the mezzanine. They aren't far away, but their experience must have been far different.

But if you're on the floor, especially with the good seats we had, be prepared not only for loud yelling, swearing and running all around you, but also for gunshots and, yes, a gun waving around during one sequence. (It's not pointed at audience members, but on the floor, you're right there anyway.)

Does the Oklahoma! extension wipe out the chances of this transferring to Broadway next season? I remember reading that the actors only had a strict year on their visas from when they entered the US to start at St. Ann's.

Bumping this to see if maybe someone knows anything about a transfer this season? Hadn't seen anything about this one posted in a while, but sorry if I am repeating something.
