With HOH and OOTI closing, what's on the chopping block next? |
I have a friend in the know who said KING KONG is toast by January.
I also think WAITRESS might hold on into the next year since they just released a new block of tickets, pending on how they sell and who they cast.

With Summer grossing in the mid-$400K range this week, I'm surprised they haven't already posted a January 6 closing.

While I'm feel he'll be good in the part, I don't really see him as much of a box office draw.

I literally felt my heart dropped

Is this friend a reputable source? As in, are they involved with the show at all?
While King Kong isn't making the kind of money it needs to in order to sustain a run and make a profit...I have heard that the producers intend to keep it open to Tony season in hopes of a Best Musical nomination. That's obviously an unlikely Tony scenario for them, but just reporting what I heard

But why? This isn't a show that is going to get produced often, and a nomination does NOTHING for sales.

I don't know, but to see three shows post notices in as many days - and not because of the Tony nominations or awards - is kind of astounding. They're dropping like flies!

I feel like it’s typical for this time of year.

your "friend" makes a statement that does not make sense. If he is not selling well, no reason to bleed through Feb/Mar. OTOH it is not especially imperiled ATM.

A bunch of shows always close in January, so neither the timing nor any of the shows in question seem too surprising...
