George Takei shows his 'Allegiance' to his musical with new film about its journey to Broadway

''Allegiance to Broadway: The Dream. The Story. The Journey of a Musical'' will be shown in more than 600 movie theaters on Dec. 4. That'll be followed by a return engagement of the filmed version of ''Allegiance,'' starring Takei, Lea Salonga and Telly Leung, on Dec. 11.

''Allegiance'' is based on Takei's experiences being sent to an internment camp, along with 120,000 fellow Japanese-Americans, during World War II. In the new documentary, Takei recalls the indignity and injustice of it all: ''That's why 'Allegiance' is so important. Because we don't know this chapter of American history, we're repeating it again. Traumatized people fleeing violence and poverty with their children only to have their children ripped away from them, then put in cages, and then scattered across the country. Given away. This is a new low in cruelty.”

''Allegiance to Broadway'' will try to maximize the show's reach by telling the backstage story of its trials and tribulations to get to N.Y. Though Takei is best known for ''Star Trek'' and never dreamed his story would be on Broadway, he's so proud of his ''Allegiance.''

Does anyone know -- what about releasing the filmed version of Allegiance for individual purchase on DVD? Wasn't that supposed to happen around fall/winter 2018 (ie now)? 

I'd also love them to release this new "making of" film along with it. I'd buy a two-DVD set of those.

I signed up for updates on the supposed Box Set about a year ago. Maybe this will finally be produced now that the documentary is being screened! The concept art looks just lovely.
