Hey all American Friends I have three days in NYC planned but not confirmed and as such haven't booked any shows.

My thinking I have 5 slots for shows. And I am thinking

Friday Eve Torch Song (Saw last Year)/Once on this Island

Sat Mat My Fair Lady

Sat Eve The Cher Show

Sun Mat The Prom/Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui

Sun Eve Mother of the Maid

How much could I do it for? Should I rush all or pre-book? Today Tix?

I could switch days and times.

I would check a site called BroadwayBox and type in the name of the show and any discounts will pop up. TodayTix simply uses those same discount codes to get you tickets, but they have a service charge tacked onto it. 

I'd buy beforehand simply because rush is so very hit or miss. 

You're only going to be there for three days and you have to line up fairly early for most shows to get rush, and even then, they may stop selling rush to the last 10-20 people in line, and you'd have wasted your whole morning. 

Plus, it's very hit or miss with seating. Some shows give out front row orchestra seats for rush / lotto winners, but some shows will stick you in the rear mezzanine or partial view seat. 

Obviously, this isn't much of an issue with Once on this Island or My Fair Lady because the Vivian Beaumont and Circle in the Square have overall good sightlines, but, not every theatre does. 

I went on BroadwayBox and got a code for Once on this Island that gave me a hefty discount. You put these offer codes into TelechargeOffers (a separate site branch of Telecharge where you put in offer codes)

TKTS booth is also a good option, but once again, I don't really like letting destiny place me in seats. I much prefer seeing shows from seats that are good. I learned this mistake with rushing and being placed in the rear mezz of some show that had a giant bar that blocked absolutely everything, and this is coming from a tall 5"10 person. You don't want to be that person that gets all hyped up for a show, rushes it, and then finds out that you're sitting in the nosebleeds, in some partial view seat, where the sight lines are terrible.

Torch Song has $42 rush that seems pretty easy to get. Though I've not tried myself, I've heard reports. Once On This Island does not have a rush. My Fair Lady only has a $32 student rush that you can get with a valid student ID. The Cher Show doesn't have a rush, either. The Prom has $40 rush seats that haven't been too hard to get, but positive WOM might be causing the line to get longer. I don't know if Resistible Rise has a rush. I'm not sure how CSC does it. Mother of the Maid's rush is through TodayTix only and is $20.

Hey Human Heart, thank you very much. I wasn't familiar with Broadway Box so I really appreciate that.

 Third broadway visit only rushed three shows out of near 20 in that time and those were King and I at LCT, Allegiance at TKTS and M.Butterfly Rush Line at Cort day Clive Owen was out so I've been very lucky seating wise for all those shows and great prices. 

I rarely rush because I always have to travel be it into London, Paris, etc So I always pre-book. This trip while the flight is booked nothing else is confirmed and I have a confirmed booking summer 19. 

I was hoping a show would propel me to confirm but Cher Show will be on next summer, I'd guess My Fair Lady will be on and the others are just fillers to make the most of a visit. I would like to see The Prom but it's not looking good and it's not enough to drag me across the Atlantic. 

Is it worth paying $1000 for a hotel really just to see My Fair Lady and The Cher Show?

I got student rush for King and I thanksgiving 2015 and it was around $100 I think so that's a major drop. I'm an old student though PhD so maybe the $32 is under 26 or something. 

Because it's Thanksgiving weekend it probably pushes up prices and reduces the chances of rushing.

My Fair Lady also has linctix available for those age 35 or below (and you don't have to be a student.) I believe it's $42.

They’re $32, and you don’t have to be a student. You just have to have proof of your age. We got ours about two weeks in advance for this past Wednesday matinee.

I wouldn't count on rush for Mother of the Maid. They have only 4 seats available for each performance, and unless you have very fast fingers, they're difficult to get.

I would order tickets to The Prom early. It opens next week and if the reviews are decent, rush is going to be more difficult to get. I saw it last week and loved it!

I don't think THE PROM is going to be a difficult ticket to get at all. Even if the reviews are good. It will likely be available at TKTS or you could use the Broadwaybox discounts if you want to know for sure of your performance date.

$1000 for a hotel for three or four days???? I know New York is pricey, but even with the most basic search you can find better rates than that. If you'd like to stay in the theatre district I would recommend Row NYC. It was recently renovated, rooms are small but nice, and they have very affordable rates. But there are PLENTY of hotels out there that will come in under $1000.

The Prom will never be a difficult show to get tickets to. I'm not expecting decent reviews, either.

I loved it at Second Stage I wrote academic papers on it and give Queer Theatre modules so I'd happily see it again. I do hope they have the revised text on sale. I would like to see Island if Alex is still in.

I have a Hilton suite booked near Times Square but I had a quick look there and think I can get a Hilton for about 800 tax inclusive for 3 nights.

I've looked at the Row Nyc but discounted it because of the service charge/resort fee thing. We don't get that over here and I don't know why but I prefer it inclusive it seems petty to divide the charges. It's probably I'm just not used to it.

The last question is What's Today Tix Concierge like? I know it's legit but is it weird or difficult chasing Today Tix staff outside the theatre? Am I going to feel embarrassed? Will people be looking at you as if you are dodgy? It just seems like an odd scenario and not one I've experienced before but i notice a lot of Today Tix shows are Concierge meet outside.

Very easy to spot the TodayTix staff. They wear big red jackets that say TODAY TIX. Plenty of people use it, and different people on here have different opinions. And you won't have to wait in the long box office line.

You don't have to chase after the Today Tix people. They stand right outside the door and they are easy to spot. Red coat when it's cold out, red tshirt when it isn't cold that says Today Tix on it. Just go up to them and say your name. They wont run away when they see you approaching them and they won't look at you weird.

Yep the Row NYC charges $34.42 per night resort fee so on top of $650 room x 14.75% tax then $3.50 per night tax plus resort fee of $34.42 equals $843.57 

They states resort fee/facility fee is for calls WiFi and water,
