Spot-on creepy and so perceptively accurate.

Painfully so.  cheeky

Is it meant to be a parody of In The Heights?

"It’s the fractured quality in [Bernadette Peters'] singing voice and line readings that puts across the character as someone for whom resentment is sliding into madness." - NYtimes on Follies (2011).

Huh?  Because they cleverly referenced Lin-Manuel Miranda you assumed it was mocking IN THE HEIGHTS?  If anything, that portion winked at HAMILTON.

Sophisticated, intelligent humor evades the simpletons once again.  If you can’t laugh at yourself, misery and bitterness will sour your life.  Even Lin-Manuel Miranda has poked fun of himself and doesn’t take anything seriously.

I was actually pleased to see dancers in two other sketches last night. Good on them going with a theme.

The pull quotes were great!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I've noticed a lot more theatre humor on SNL in recent years. There was Crucible Cast Party and the Legally Blonde parody last year, and I love it.

Crucible Cast Party. Already a classic as  far as I'm concerned.

The throwaway reference at the end of the Off Broadway Parody to the Mariska Hargitay Theatre  gave me a laff too.  ( sorry Jerry Orbach)  also the Wicked ahh wah ahhh too!

O agree w u re the pull quotes too.

Words that confuse censors:Fecund, penal, taint, titmouse, cockatoo, coccyx, ballcock, cockeye, prickly, kumquat, titter, cunning linguist, insertion, gobble, guzzle, swallow, manhole, rimshot, ramrod, come, fallacious, lugubrious, rectify,Uranus, angina, paradiddle, spotted dick, dictum, frock, cunctation, engorge, turgid, stiff, bush, uvula, crapulence, masticate, Dick Butkus, gherkin and of course the always bewildering lickety split. As you can see, context is every thing. Chuck Lorre Addendum: 555 382 5968 "Sexarama, Hexarama, Queeriosis, Feariosis!" Alec Baldwin “I’m going to have to science the shit outta this.” The Martian

Cecily Strong has done a lot of theatre humor sketches (can’t forget the Christmas one with Chris Hemsworth). In a different sketch last night, she sang “Send in the Clowns!”

Rewatching the sketch, I feel like you could make a full show out of this. The sketch is built off cringe humor, which can get old fast, but I feel like you could make a musical that's a satire of well-meaning people trying to get a political message across, despite being the wrong people to send that message.

Later on in the night, during the "Americas got talent" sketch Jonah Hill also sang from Joseph!

Those pull quotes still gave this fake show a better review than Gettin' the Band Back Together.

The two or three sketches that they have done with theatre are fantastic! Anyone remember this gems of a "High School Theatre Show"

The $140 ticket price was the best line of the whole sketch.

It really bothers me that this is supposed to be about "Off-Broadway," when it is really about "Off-Off Broadway." Off-Broadway is made up of actual professional theatre organizations, including some very prestigious ones like The Public Theatre, Signature Theatre, Pearl Theatre, etc. However, OFF-OFF Broadway is indeed basically out of work actors (usually in their twenties) casting themselves in shows they produced themselves.

The skit is hilarious, but also furthers the myth that Broadway is the pinnacle of theatre, and everything else is garbage.
