The weird thing about Jesse Green's Pasquale comment is that he really liked Bridges of Madison County and Pasquale's performance in it:

"The leading performances, shaped by Sher to preserve a sense of character modesty within the vocal extravagance, are exemplary.... Barihunk Steven Pasquale, as Robert, who starred opposite O’Hara in Far From Heaven off Broadway last spring, and appeared in the first developmental production of The Light in the Piazza with her as well, at last gets a chance to be heard singing on Broadway. He was worth the wait.... surely any less beautiful production, with less glorious singing actors than O’Hara and Pasquale, would expose other flaws. But don’t let’s ask for the moon. We have the stars."

Did anyone else see the AMERICAN SON this evening? Pasquale was unfortunately out but his understudy, Brian Avers, was excellent! I've never seen him perform before so had no expectations.

I saw this play during previews with the entire cast a month ago and back then I remember Eugene Lee and Kerry Washington standing out. In this performance, I thought both Brian Avers really captured the role of Scott well (and of course Lee was amazing again... and so was Washington!) I'm not sure if this is the first time Avers performing as Scott but if it is, it certainly didn't look it. I was really amazed by his performance.

I didn't see a big line at the box office asking to exchange/refund tix so I'm guessing a good number of people are buying tix to simply see the play (or to see Kerry.)

Saw this via Rush at yesterdays matinee. Despite its flaws, it’s powerful. That last scene will haunt me forever. I went in knowing how it ended due to one reviewer’s unannounced spoiler. But that actually might’ve worked in my favor as I knew all along how it would turn out (lending if more sadness and, ironically, more suspense somehow) although my friend who did not know was also deeply affected as I was by that last scene.

I just came from seeing the show and I thought it was great. Kerry Washington and Steven Pasquale were fantastic especially in their more emotional scenes. Definitely glad I got to see it before it closes Sunday. For those that care about the stage door, Eugene and Jeremy both came out and Kerry sent out signed Playbills which I thought was a very nice gesture on her part.
