John Cameron Mitchell ORIGIN OF LOVE Tour |
There are additional dates in the spring in Boston, DC, and a few other places (not sure if Trask is doing those). You can find them on JCM's Instagram.
I'm attending both Town Hall shows.
I went to the first night last night in DC and I thought it was VERY FUN. JCM was hilarious during the stories he was telling (a lot of it was making fun of DC which is pretty easy to do tbh) He did Hedwig songs and some other songs from his upcoming project.
FYI there's a merch table! Shirts, keychains, coasters, signed posters. There were people waiting for him at the stage door but I didn't wait to see if/when he came out.

Thanks for the review! Is the merch specific to Hedwig or his tour?
Great to hear the DC part of the tour was a lot of fun! I was able to get a ticket in June and cannot wait!!!!! Hedwig is one of my favorite musicals (went to the in-person lottery a few times each week after work back in 2014 and was able to see NPH, Rannells, Hall, JCM (before accident and after accident), Criss, and Diggs!

How long was the show? Do you think it would be ok taking someone not familiar with Hedwig or is Hedwig knowledge a necessity?
Just received a discount offer for the 3/2 Boston show. $48 orchestra seats for the next 48 hours using code JCMMANIA.

$48 = $64 including fees. So annoying.
Third show added on Thursday, June 27, for Town Hall.
Onsale now for members, noon Thursday for the rest.

It was really great, although I have to admit I'm not a concert person. Quite a bit of non-Hedwig filler, which I could have done without. A LOT of merchandise, and an auction.
But they sang every song from Hedwig, including some rare and very special cuts. There were some very exciting guest stars doing some very exciting things. :)
Definitely not to be missed.

Can you post more details as a spoiler?

Sweet. I'm going tonight and Saturday (or just tonight, if I win Moulin can-can seating for Saturday)… can't wait.

Last night was INCREDIBLE. It was basically Hedwig ala VH1 storytellers. All the songs from the show were performed (in random order) with John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask providing behind the scenes stories and info about the development of their professional relationship and the evolution of Hedwig. Tits of Clay reunited and Amber Martin provided back up vocals and assisted JCM with his costume changes. They had a guy to the side of the stage using an overhead projector to provide live visuals to go along with the stories. As mentioned before lots of surprise guests. Lena Hall came out and performed “White Punks on Dope” by The Tubes. As did Miriam Shor who performed a song I wasn’t familiar with. The real treat was Neil Patrick Harris who came out in the middle of “Angry Inch” and proceeded to crowd surf through the orchestra with JCM (not an easy feat considering the orchestra has seats). Overall just a really great night. If you’re a fan of Hedwig you will not be disappointed.
