Bumping this because the tour starts in just over a week. I was looking at the production's Instagram and apparently it has "French flavour" and a cast of actor-musicians! Those two things alone likely mean it's a brand-new take on the show compared to Broadway.
Also, ironic that the leading lady's name is Audrey, just like the film's Tautou.
The new artwork looks great! I was excited about this coming to Broadway, and ended up a bit disappointed after seeing it. But since then, I have listened to the cast recording many times and absolutely love it. Curious to hear what the UK show is like.
If this is going to be good, they're pretty much going to have to backpedal on everything they changed for Broadway. The best stuff out of this show was what I saw from the Berkeley production.
I absolutely love the trailer for the UK production. Everything about it feels right. It looks like tone wise it is a much better match for the material than the American staging.
Not sure where to post this comment. I saw a small regional production here in Vancouver twice this weekend (easy when tickets are only $15). It followed the script from the original broadway production. I found it charming, but after reading through the old previews thread from 2017, I see it had all the flaws that made the show flop that year - like the ending which just kind of drops the ball. With this new UK production, I don't like turning Young Amelie into a puppet, & I don't see the need for this go be a 2 &1/2 hour show. But, would still like to see this to compare. Wonder if this version does well, if they will stop licensing the original version?
