Do we think there's any chance ever of a Producers revival?

I wish I was able to catch the show while it was around. Does anyone think there's a chance we could possibly get a revival one day? With Norbert Leo Butz and Gavin Creel?

I don't know why, but the idea of Kroll and Mulaney as Bialystock and Bloom just popped into my head.

I don't think a lot of the humor still works. Ironically, the "offensive" material in the show remains pretty funny... but the gay stereotypes, the representation of women, and most of the jokes about sex just aren't as funny as they used to be.  I'm not the kind of person who gets easily offended... it's just sort of hard to laugh at this stuff nowadays. There was a recent production here in Chicago that was pretty great... but a lot stuff came off as more awkward than funny... and the folks in the audience that seemed to be guffawing also seemed to be doing so for the wrong reasons.

Jesus saves. I spend.

Give it another 10-20 years to put more time between the original/film that everyone still remembers. Nathan Lane & Matthew Broderick & Stroman's direction/choreography heightened the material and overshadowed flaws. It doesn't feel like a show that gets a "reimagining," and would inevitably have bad comparisons to the original. There are some uncomfortable moments that should be...rethought...too.

That said, BroadwayConcierge's idea of Mulaney & Kroll is amazing, but only if Billy Eichner plays Roger DeBris!! Maybe for a one-nighter?

I think a SPAMALOT revival would actually be more likely before a PRODUCERS revival, since that show became an ensemble piece once Tim Curry and the originals left. (And I think Spamalot keeps returning to the UK in tours and West End productions?)

Last time I saw it, I was struck by sort of the opposite: how much of what COULD be offensive in today's culture is neutered by the warm-hearted nature of the material. Mel Brooks may be an equal-opportunity offender, but his sense of humor about it is oddly cuddly. The only person who the joke is ever really ON is Bialystock himself- Roger DeBris may be a drama queen, and Carmen Ghia an outdated 1950s "nelly" stereotype, but neither one is usually the target of the punch lines. Ulla is WAY less of a bimbo caricature than she was in the original film as well.

It's bawdy humor, but Mel Brooks is of an older, kinder generation of satire. While the jokes in "Book of Mormon," for example, may be much more pointed and satirical today, there's also an element of condemnation and judgment in much of it that you don't find anywhere in Mel Brooks. There's a difference between "Roger DeBris is a swishy kook" and "third-world Africa is messed up."

Don't forget, making fun of Nazis is bad now according to our president. So the show will have to be reworked.

Does anybody think this show could work scaled down?  The West End production of Young Frankenstein was really scaled down and it worked better then it did on Broadway. At least in my opinion.

If Lane and Broderick agreed to a reprise, I think the ticket sales would go thru the roof.

How about Lea Delaria as Bialystock and Annaleigh Ashford as Bloom? Billy Eichner can still play Roger DeBris.

I would rather not see Bloom be turned into Evan Hansen.

Then don't pretend to buy an imaginary ticket to a non-existent production?

I saw a local production last year, and while the show is still a lot of fun, the jokes just don't work as well now. A lot of it became very cringe worthy.

Keep Matthew Broderick out of it. The shows I have seen him in lately he is just phoning it in. Bring in some fresh new talent! And I'm a feminist, but I think Ulla still must be a hilarious dumb blonde who can't type.

I saw this the first time it toured through Tulsa. I never need to see t again. It did not meet my expectations. I especially did not enjoy the gay stereotypes. I know the whole idea was that no target was sacred. And the show is likely making more fun of the stereotype than gay people themselves, but I felt (and I could be wrong) the audience I saw it with was laughing at the gay people as if the stereotypes were 100% true. I don’t need a revival.

This is a show I saw once, and have absolutely no desire to see again in any way, shape or form whether it is a concert or a full scale revival. I just did not think the show was funny, and I will never understand the hype.

I still would laugh.

But who is going to hand tissues to those protesting the show DENIES GAY PEOPLE THEIR HUMANITY and is a HATE CRIME?
