I had a difficult time with The Waverly Gallery as I went through this with my father and it triggered me. If this is a concern you might want to avoid it.

Wavery is quite good with strong performances -- a bit heavy for me since it hit real close to home. Lifespan is quite funny and very timely -- also with strong performances. I have not yet seen American Son. I would say it depends on your mood.

Having seen all 3, I would suggest The Waverley Gallery, unless you’re a diehard fan of one of the actors in the other shows.

Lifespan.  Seen it 4 times and going again.  Great performances and a great laugh each time. I also notice different things each time. Lines are added; others removed.  Bobby Cannavalle is great in his blustery performance much like his mafia murderer  in HBO's Boardwalk Empire.   Daniel Radcliffe shows he's way beyond Harry Potter, tho dealers and fans stand at the stage door imploring 'graphs on whatever HP stuff they shove at him.  Cherry Jones is class, pure and simple.

Want a fun time?  Lifespan.

My only complaint about Lifespan is the really, really horrible design of a show poster. Colors, graphics. If the merchandiser hadn't told me the yellow represented a post-it note, I would not have known.  Awful.  Someone called it the "mustard and ketchup" poster.  Even my professional framer shrugged and said it wasn't worth the price of framing.

I frame virtually every poster I get from a show bc I have them 'graphed.   This one won't make the cut, though I will keep it since it's 'graphed.

I had the same issue. I didnt read about it before I saw it. Elaine May was outstanding, but it is a punch in the gut as it hit too close to home. I was a mess when it was over.
