Rachel Bloom? Not sure if she's a "big" enough name, but she's been doing the backstage stuff for two years now, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is in its final series. I'm not totally sure if she's popular enough with Broadway audiences though.

Every year i get more and more scared that this will be pulled off the air, cause the ratings are terrible year after year.

I have a feeling its gonna be Colbert.

Interesting article about live telecasts and ratings.  The Tonys actually went up in viewers as the Oscars and Grammys went down.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/11/arts/television/tony-awards-tv-ratings.html

It is really an issue with people watching broadcast television.  More and more viewers watch streaming or Hulu versions of their favorite shows and events.

It would be interesting to see how many viewers watched an award show via DVR or other service after the live event?

The days of only watching TV with an original broadcast date are over.

Just looking at this season and who/what will be performing, I predict that this will be possibly the lowest rated Tony’s ever.

I don't even think it's a DVR thing - almost everyone I know has cut cable altogether. CBS All Access exists, but I'm not sure how popular it is... and I don't know how many people would pay for the whole show on iTunes. Definitely a problem for lots of broadcast programming, not just the Tonys.

I am still waiting for Kroll and Mulaney to host it together someday.

Honestly, the only way I’ll enjoy any awards show now is if someone pisses themselves on stage.

So. I’m gonna go out on a limb. My hope is that Cher takes on hosting the tonys this season. I mean she has experience and the stories and skits and experience with costume changes. It would also be a great way for her to promote the Cher Show. Because I think it’s pretty safe to say that it won’t be taking home any Tony’s

There’s a better chance of Donna Summer hosting than there is of Cher doing it.

Well John Mulaney has now publicly said he would host the Tonys. They have no excuse this year.

He NEEDS to do it!  His sense of humor would be perfect for the show, and he's such a big theatre kid that it would be amazing.

I don't think he was ever a hard get for this, but the network will still rather a bigger name like Colbert.

Nothing against Mulaney, I'm seeing him do standup on Saturday...

He also said he’d considering writing the book and lyrics to a musical and considering his work on co-op, I wouldn’t be against the idea. A Home Alone musical anyone?

Genuinely surprised LMM hasn't hosted yet. You know he wants to.

John Mulany is very popular with the millenial/gen Z crowd and may help pull them in. As a young person I'd be more interested in watching him host than Cher.

Soooo thought about this one tonight but what about Darren Criss? He's very IN right now as he is riding on that popularity high with his Emmy and Golden Globe wins. He would certainly help to pull in some outsiders to tune in while still kind of keeping it in the theatre family.

It's a lot of work for very little pay. Most people probably don't want to do it. If LMM had wanted to do it over the last decade, he would have.  The Oscars went really well without one, I don't think it's necessary.

Well, CBS would only have wanted him to do it at all for the past 2 years...
