I’m hoping to find something emotional about absent or dead fathers from the perspective of the daughter.

I mean, if you don't need it to be from a musical, there is "Piece by Piece" by Kelly Clarkson. Although, I am a male, I did "No More" from "Into the Woods" for the same context.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

If you want something you can be reasonably sure nobody else is singing, look at "Pink Taffeta Sample Size 10", a Cy Coleman/Dorothy Fields number that was cut from SWEET CHARITY. A number of ladies have recorded it over the past 50 years, including Mimi Hines and Debbie Shapiro Gravitte.

You'll have to cut it, I'm sure. It's also a period number, since we don't have traveling ladies' dress salesmen (like the singer's father) any more; but the context is explained in the lyric and it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. I assume it was originally written for Gwen Verdon, so don't expect any vocal pyrotechnics (unless you add them yourself). But it's a sweet song, lots of character details, and not often performed.
