Anyone plan on seeing the show's first preview on Sunday? I noticed that that next performance after Sunday isn't until Wednesday, I believe.  The show runs through November 18. Mean Girls ran through the end of November, I know that, but different producers and shorter engagement; just interesting. Any chance this would extend in DC if sales are good?

I'm certainly not an insider with this production, but I don't see it as likely to extend- this is a very clear and very well-advertised "pre-Broadway tryout" that wants to work out the kinks of the material before its scheduled opening. Chances are they'll want to go back to the mattresses, write and revise as needed, and let the returning cast have some time with the new material- plus probably some pre-booked gigs- before the Broadway premiere.

I want to believe when it comes to the score: King Kong has cycled through several creative and it looks like Perfect did touch-up work but was just giving songs to plug in. He's been THE composer attached to this project for several years, and I'd like to think its where his talent and passion was better placed. (The realist in me still thinks it should have been the next Tim Minchin show...)

Upon contacting Beetlejuice's social media about a lottery, I was advised

"We'll be having at lottery at the National Theatre during our run.

Two hours prior to the start of the show, individuals may submit their names in person to be drawn to purchase up to two tickets at $25 per ticket (inclusive of all fees). 20 Lottery seats will be available. Names will be announced thirty minutes after the entry period (90 minutes prior to the show). Individuals must be present, with cash, to redeem the offer."

Tickets also showed up today on TodayTix.  Not sure if there is a TON of savings after service fees....but it might be worth a check.  My tickets aren't until the 21st.  crying

I'll be there then too! I'm crossing my fingers they have some cute merch, and a fun themed drink...I'll be damned if they aren't serving a drink called "BEETLE JUICE".

That would be a very different drink if a production of Sweeney Todd was selling it...

I don't know if we'll see any more Broadway action from Minchin in a while; he moved back to Australia last year. After Groundhog Day failed and his animated Dreamworks movie got canned in the same year, he felt really burned.

However, I too am very keen to hear the score of Beetlejuice. Minchin and Perfect are both cut from the same cloth, interesting music and witty lyrics. I was lucky enough to hear a couple of cut songs early last year, and they sounded very very fun.

Not sure if this would work, but ever since Tim Minchin was mentioned in relation to this show I can't help picturing him as Beetlejuice someday. He already has the look, or close to it, when he's in character for concerts and such. But I digress.

I live in DC. There are literally more tickets available for Beetlejuice than the Anything Goes revival at Arena Stage. DEH it is not.

To be fair, Arena Stage has less tickets to sell and Anything Goes is better sell for the older crowds who tend to go see shows. Beetle juices marketing has been about how raunchy it is. I feel like that may scare a lot of people away

BTS pics of the set and one of the very large creatures look really awesome. I haven’t heard the music, but they at least nailed the visual tone of the piece.

Agreed that this isn't a completely fair comparison with Anything Goes; especially because Arena has a built-in subscriber base AND generous discounts/packages for families and students.  The National seats 1676 and Arena 680 people.

Over the course of their run, Beetlejuice has to sell approximately 20,000 more tickets in 20 fewer performances.  Like any new work, Beetlejuice is going to need to depend on positive word of mouth in the next couple of weeks.  Even Dear Evan Hansen needed a few weeks of post-first-preview buzz to really take off too and it was performed smaller theatre within Arena.

I'm not sure if Beetlejuice is going to be the raging success that Mean Girls was in DC (and eventually on Broadway) but hopefully it will see enough success that producers will continue to have their out-of-town-tryouts in DC!
