Mean Girls Fan Day Performance

I know the mods locked the other thread but I'm still hoping to hear some reports of what the show was like!

A few questions I had, mostly on the merch/swag side: Did they give out anything, like a wristband or something? Was the Playbill any different than the usual one?

And do they have a souvenir program yet?

Swag included a free Mean Girls sippy cup of rose wine (for those of legal drinking age —-ids were checked twice) and also a Mean Girls Kalteen “nutrition bar”  courtesy of Dylan’s Candy Bar. It looked like souvenir programs were being sold..

Also at the top of the show, Jonathan Bennett (Aaron from the Mean Girls film) came out and read a proclamation from the city and introduced Casey, Nell Benjamin , Jeff Richmond and Tina Fey (then Tina gave a welcome speech).

What’s funny was Daniel Franzese (Damian) was Also in town, but he was at HEAD OVER HEELS (like me) hanging out with Peppermint.

the Playbill wasn't any different. i kind of wish they put a sticker on it like how DEH & Mormon have done w/their fan days

 got to go to the performance after all. ????? It was incredible! But yeah no special playbills. They did have an after party across the street where actors asked trivia questions and Tina Fey asked a question with JON HAMM??? Random??? But it was so fun!

^^Seconded. I know the person behind Broadway Wiz and that is LOW. They are not out to get people like that, they are a genuine person, who is incredibly enthusiastic about theater and I bet just wants to spread around the joy of theater.  I was honestly not aware of any drama!

Good for you, theaterwiz414....how were you able to get a ticket to go?

Came on just to say that I know of several people who have bought playbills from "BroadwayWiz" through facebook groups and, after paying, never received anything and whose messages were ignored after. So, yes, they are a problem, and this isn't a case of "bullying a harmless small business owner."

On the topic of this thread, however, I was at the performance last night and it was certainly energetic! They did sell souvenir programs and they have some great new production stills in them.

I remember last season, tons of people had complaints on social media that they never received the giveaway prizes. From her account she seems like a nice lady though

I'm sure she's nice, just very unreliable, and that's a huge problem when money is involved.

However, I don't believe the person on this thread is the same woman.

I won’t feed the troll who only wants to insult me.

I will say the performance was incredible. The choreography is GENIUS. I’m amazed by Taylor Lourderman and Barrett Wilbert Weed, who potentially have the most vocally demanding roles. Kate Rockwell does NOT get enough credit-she’s a comedic genius.




I say all this as a fan of the show and the actors, and please block me if you intend on calling me a stan or something similar because I am not one and maybe I’m too sensitive but I do not like being called one.

I cannot speak to theaterwiz414's experiences, but I also got into the show at a later hour. I didn't win tickets through the original luckyseat lottery, but I showed up day of and just made it known that I would be interested in a ticket if one were to become available. Throughout the day I received many different answers about what they would be doing with the unclaimed tickets (In fact, one person was sure that every ticket would be claimed!), but at the end of the day I was advised to just wait at the box office and see if they could do anything for us. This method got quite a few people tickets at around 6:50, and from what I could see there were still a handful of empty seats in the theater.

For this there was no organized line or anything like that. My friends and I wandered in and out of the area all day, and I'm sure we would have been content (but of course a little disappointed) with everything we got to do even if there had been no tickets available.

Exactly. We just waited across the street. Then people who worked the pick-up tables ran across the street with boxes of unclaimed tickets. They said they were bringing them to the box office. Pick up continued for a while, and then, as it got closer to show time, suddenly someone I was waiting with ran outside and there were two people giving out left over tickets!! I can’t believe how lucky we got (and of course they were legit tickets).

No tea and no shade, but theaterwiz/j.rosenthal does not run a fully clean business. Several of my friends in the playbill community have not received playbills from her, gotten stuff at overly inflated prices. <<edited by BWW staff>> Generally, don't do playbill business with her. And however she gets all of these comps, it's sketchy. I met her at the flea, and the lady with her (Her legitimate daughter??) seemed very nice. We aren't trolls, we are real people.

Wow. I really hope someone replies that way to you the next time you start a post on here asking for advice on how to get tickets to the next thing that you really can't put into words how much you want to attend.

It was a joke. Calm down. I believe I did explain it somewhere further up on this post? If not....here goes.

 

So I knew there wouldn’t be a rush line or anything, but I decided to go by the theater anyway. The person at the box office said all tickets had been claimed (lies). I decided to stick around because hey, you never know, right? There had to be at least one person who didn’t show up? So I waited across the street. As it got closer to showtime, I found out from people standing by me that they did in fact have tickets. About 10-15 minutes before show time they moved the ticket pickup line from a bar across the street to the box office. I stood there with three other people. I saw one of them run outside and just outside the doors were two people with envelopes with tickets!!! They definitely had them leftover. I asked for one, and GOT A TICKET. Left orchestra, not a bad seat at all!! I couldn’t have been more thrilled.

 

note: for special performances like this,  do not rely on this method. It is NEVER guaranteed.
