Is "Hillary and Clinton" happening? |

When I read the play, she was who I envisioned as the role, so I hope that's true.
I saw a regional production of this a few years ago and found it pretty weak. I guess they're trying to cash in on Hnath's name now that A DOLL'S HOUSE, PART 2 is so hot. Even with Laurie, I doubt I'd sit through it again.

You’re also the person who said you knew ariana grande was the next elphba on broadway, and that sunday in the park with george was greenlit for a movie... but okay
I'm definitely in the minority apparently, but I really loved this play when it premiered here in Chicago a few years back.
Outside of the usual "different people have different tastes," I think timing and context was a big factor too. The whole play is about challenging public assumption of politicians and challenging our perceptions of these iconic figures by creating a kind of "cultural dissonance"; characters with the same names and similar histories to the Clintons we really know, but completely different in every other facet. It's a super weird technique and it sure as hell doesn't work for everyone but it won me over.
Trying to pull this off in the midst of the 2016 election pretty much pulled off the exact opposite effect. People wanted to see a play that was undeniably a commentary on the Clinton legacy and the current political climate. H&C is not that play.
I'd be curious to see another production. I will also say that Laurie Metcalf would for sure be wonderful, but I think the play works best when the actors playing Hillary and Bill have little-to-no resemblance to the actual Clintons (example; Hillary was played at VG by the wonderful Cheryl Lynn Bruce, a black actress, immediately shifting the perception of the character). Obviously Metcalf is not a dead ringer for Hillary but...you get the idea.
TLDR; I like the play a lot, I get why others don't, let's see what happens!

Crap. Laurie Metcalf is probably the only actress who could prompt me to buy a ticket to see a Hillary Clinton play. Might give into this one.

I promise you it's not a "Hillary Clinton play." It's more a "women in politics play" if anything.
Wow. After last season's disappointing Lead Actress in a Play race, just the list of possible nominees in incredible:
Laurie Metcalf, HILLARY AND CLINTON
Janet McTeer, BERNHARDT/HAMLET
Cherry Jones, THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT
Andrea Martin, GARY, A SEQUEL TO TITUS ANDRONICUS
Glenda Jackson, KING LEAR
Tatiana Maslany, NETWORK
Kerry Washington, AMERICAN SON
Celia Keenan-Bolger, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
Not to mention anyone who might be petitioned leading from THE FERRYMAN or THE WAVERLY GALLERY.

I would also add Keri Russell to that list.

Thanks for letting me know! That makes it sound much more palatable.
Also, what theatre do we think this could possibly be going to with a first preview of March 16?
