Yesterday I attended the afternoon performance of WHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME at the New York Theater Workshop. My decision to attend was based on the events unfolding in Washington, DC over the past few days. Heidi Schreck's play and performance was simply astounding and never before have I experienced a piece of theater that resonated with me so emotionally based on the state of current events. I am still processing what I saw and heard, and will likely need some time to make sense of it all. For anyone feeling down about what is happening with the Kavenough confirmation, this play may be helpful with your processing of it all and offer some light to what seems like only darkness these days.

I saw this play last year at Clubbed Thumb, where it began. I assume it is not much different now, then the play that I saw. It is more of a documentary play then a narrative one, in that Heidi Schreck tells the story of parts of her childhood and adult life, and even more important, recounts a family narrative that is at times upsetting but I felt ended in success. Her stories are very vivid and well drawn---the man in the play and the young adult who comes in at the end, are somewhat peripheral. It is a solid and sometimes moving evening of theater, if you are into plays that are basically one person narratives.
