Yeeeeeeeeeah I'll be shocked if it's anything other then Moulin Rouge. So I'm a little interested since it's basically the obvious answer here, if there are any doubters... what do they think could possibly go in OTHER then Moulin Rouge?

If it’s indeed Moulin Rouge, we can assume it’ll start previews in mid-late May at the absolute earliest, right? Meaning the 2019-2020 season like everyone’s been saying? No way they’d make the Tony cutoff with Kinky Boots closing April 7th.

Yes, Moulin Rogue will be a summer opening, therefore 2019-2020. I’d be surprised if the turnaround is as quick as May, though.

I'm thinking more June/July with the possibility of them paying for a performance slot on the Tony awards before they even start or while they are in previews to give them a hearty advance before they open.

Robbie, everyone's already said that Moulin Rouge is going into the Hirschfeld. We don't need some random/cryptic picture to support this!

Since we all know that it's happening anyway, it would make more sense if the title of this thread was "MOULIN ROUGE taking the Hirschfeld?" At this point, though, either question is fairly rhetorical.

I don't think I've been there since Hair so maybe I'm not remembering it right but it didn't seem big enough to house a spectacle like Moulin Rouge. It's not small based on the number of seats but based on what I remember of the stage and the location of the theater, I still don't know why Moulin Rouge would want it.

Do not expect a quick turnover. As countless of us have said ..its likely a July or even August a load in with an August or Sept start to previews.

I was told this info by staff at the closing performance in Boston.

Now that kinky has announced, it wont take long until an announcement is made. I hope.

But its be pretty funny if it's not the Hirshfeld.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I’m thinking April 7 gives Kinky Boots some wiggle room to extend if the biz is there. When are the other musicals of the 2019/20 season aiming for? Fall? Spring? Pretty Woman another pre-sold title did ok with the summer crowd starting previews the end of July. Maybe MR will follow that model and enjoy some tourist trade.

The Hirschfeld is way too big for Hadestown. That show would do better in Circle in the Square.

Hamilton is another example of commercial success despite opening in the summer (started previews July 13, opened August 6). If they’re smart with their marketing and ticket-pricing strategies, a name like Moulin Rouge! should do plenty fine on recognition and word of mouth alone to last healthily to the 2020 Tonys (again, assuming they open next summer).

I know that moulin rouge is taking the Hirschfeld, its kinda obvious, I just feel like its a little small for MR.

Hate to double post but, whats the likely hood a limited run of a play or something came in May and closed in june? And moulin rouge would open late august?

Hamilton is not a good example - it opened at The Public and was a runaway hit already, it would not have mattered when it transferred uptown.

To Kill a Mockingbird is now on sale through July 2019, so we don't know when its run will end. In any event, the Hirschfeld is a Jujamcyn house, so, if Jujamcyn has secured it, as most assume it has, then it will open at the Hirschfeld.

Not for nothing but just double checked ibdb and the same GM is on Kinky Boots and Moulin Rouge. So the transition will be seamless.
