I am totally floored by this news. She was one of the GREAT broadway actresses. With the most sublime voice I’ve ever heard. Absolutely speechless.

This is absolutely devastating news. There will never be another voice like hers - containing both beauty and ferociousness.

In shock. A performer who deserved far more recognition than she received. A true legend.

Holy s__t. I last saw her with Daniel Dae Kim in The King and I. She was astonishing -- funny, earthy, warm, sexy, and she and Kim lit the stage up. RIP and condolences to her family.

She fought with such strength and grace.

A beautiful performer and an even more beautiful human being.

My heart breaks for her loved ones. It’s utterly devastating.

May she rest in great peace.

A devastating loss to the Broadway community as well as the world in general.  I hope Jason and their friends and family are enveloped in love and support.

This is such a shock. I don't think it will sink in until I read an official report and even then...

She seemed so strong and vibrant in her recent performances. A great talent. I feel privileged to have seen her live but also glad that her work will live on through albums and filmed performances.

"Goodbye, My Love," her character's first song in Ragtime, certainly has new meaning and poignancy now. So does "I Miss the Music," the big song that Danieley's character sang in Curtains.

This is so sad — and what an amazing, vibrant body of work. I hope her family is doing as well as they can.

(I loved that production of 110 in the Shade so much that it led me to this handle.)

I have never been so affected by a Broadway death yet...so devastating. I feel deeply, deeply, deeply sorry for Jason. God, she was such an amazing performer and seemed like such a genuine, kind, funny person. She was only just on the stage this year! No. Marin Mazzie Had Passed Away((

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I am devastated and I don’t know what to say. We all know her tremendous talent, but her heart was just as beautiful big. She mentored so many young performers at her alma mater, set up scholarships, and kept us going. I was a **** singer, but she helped me fight.

I’m grateful for. The entire community lost someone truly one of a kind today. She battled with grace and dignity and in the end, something managed to somehow be stronger then her. I really do have Jason and her family in my heart today.
