Once On This Island filmed?

I’m working on a grad school paper and I was searching the Papa Ge tag on Instagram and found some professional quality videos of Once On This Island. Does anyone know if it was filmed or are these some great bootlegs that people put together? The reason I’m asking is because the clips are cut into different camera angles making me think it was filmed at one point. Thoughts? I have videos below but if for some reason they don’t work just search the Papa Ge tag and they should come up.

These were filmed for promotional purposes. I don’t think they filmed the whole show except for the archives

That’s what I was thinking! I figured it was either promotional or for archives. I remember seeing another show being filmed for Lincoln Center archives but you can’t view it until after it closed so I was confused as to how people on Instagram would have something like that. Thanks for responding!

They filmed B Roll for promotional reasons (which is what these clips are), and they also filmed for the Lincoln Center archives. Those are not available for public consumption.

Sure they are....its not even that difficult to get permission to view them.

ALL plays/musicals professionally film short scenes from their productions to be used for promotional purposes (as clips on talk shows, interviews, their websites, social media, etc).  These are technically called B-Rolls and you can view many of these on YouTube by simply entering the show title and the word: highlights in your search.

I second the suggestion for the Lincoln Center archives. The TOFT Archives are not difficult to get access to if you are a student, particularly if your paper relates in some way to the show you want to view.

I’m not sure if the rule has changed, but you are not allowed to view shows that are currently playing on Broadway.

That's still the rule. Even PHANTOM, taped back in 1988, is unavailable until the show closes -- if it ever does.
