I saw a screening last night and me and my friends came out very impressed and moved. The audience was eating it up, with applause and tears. It's hard to imagine this not being a big hit

Gaga will be winning at least one Oscar- Best Song for "Shallow," which she co-wrote (who knows, she could even receive multiple nominations in that category, as she worked on numerous songs on the soundtrack)- with the very strong potential of snagging Best Actress if momentum continues. It really is a dazzling, surprising performance that catapults her into the next level of stardom.

I have not yet seen The Wife and have no doubt that Glenn Close is fantastic, and there is definitely a sense that she is due a win. But if A Star is Born dominates the conversation, it will be very difficult to overcome.

Really looking forward to seeing this.  Regarding "Evita" as mentioned earlier - it's a visually stunning film - the costumes, art direction, cinematography and beautiful orchestrations.  Jonathan Pryce and Antonia B were both very, very good.  Never really thought too much of Madonna's performance in the film as she had no fire - no passion.

Entertainment Weekly, A24 (the movie's distributor) and a couple of other sources mention Toni Colette for her work in Hereditary as a possible nominee for Best Actress.

If she's nominated, she would be my hope for the win. I'd also like to see her on Broadway again. I rented Hearts Beat Loud last weekend and I'm gonna rent Hereditary this weekend.

I can't get enough of her work.

It's of course pretty early in the movie awards season, so actors like Colette, Melissa McCarthy (earning very good buzz for Would I Lie to You?), Emma Stone (for The Favorite), Nicole Kidman (Destroyer), and Viola Davis (Widows) could all get momentum for nominations.

But I think Close and Gaga are pretty much locked down, even at this early stage. They're performances that can't be ignored.

Let's not overlook Sondheim's "dancing bear factor:" seeing someone unproven or assumed to be mediocre suddenly be not only competent, but pretty good. A master class performance from Close is expected, while Gaga, a bottomless charisma factory who has never been proven to be an especially adroit performer (her work with Ryan Murphy has been hit or miss, and is bathed in heavy layers of his ironic camp and distancing devices), is suddenly punching above her weight class.

Disclaimer that I haven't yet seen the movie (planning to), but I feel like I'm the only one not that enthusiastic. Haven't we had enough versions of this story? Not just literally A Star Is Born but all the "toxic but charming alcoholic genius" characters over and over again. Again, haven't seen the movie and am hoping that it does more than that premise, but it's just a tired idea in my very unimportant opinion.

Mark it down now, Gaga WILL win the OSCAR for this role. She is magnificent. She not only hits every note, but then nails it to the f'###ng floor. #AMOVIESTARISBORN

I would tend to agree with you, but the movie takes on addiction and their relationship in a much more interesting way than I've seen on screen in awhile.

I really can't see Gaga not contending for the Oscar. Close is great in an okay film, but I think Gaga takes it in the end. McCarthy seems to be the real threat. Rumor is Stone will be supporting and Coleman lead for THE FAVOURITE.

How is Cooper's performance? It seems like most eyes are (rightfully so) on Gaga's star turn on the big screen, but it's also sounding like Cooper will take home the Best Actor statue, at least according to many of the online prediction outlets

I cannot wait to see this tomorrow.

While I think Gaga has a few hurdles to clear in her road to Best Actress (she's winning song in a walk), I think Cooper is a done deal. It's his best performance to date, and I can't imagine anyone besting him this year, save maybe Christian Bale in VICE. He is absolutely captivating.

He's very good but don't see an Oscar. Nomination maybe

I think Coleman will be her biggest competition not Close.

Saw a sneak, and Gaga really is shockingly good. Very natural without a trace of camp... Some of my reaction my be "surprise" as it's coming as such a shock. And Cooper's gonna get a couple of noms I'd predict, for actor and director (if not also for co-writing/adapting.)

1. If you are referring to Olivia Colman in THE FAVOURITE: she should go Supporting if she or her studio want a win. She’s terrific, but will not win in Lead. She could and likely will pass for supporting, as others with more screen time in the recent years haved dropped down to win.

2. This is Cooper’s best performance to date. He will win something on Oscar night, whether it is Picture, Director or Actor is unknown. He will not go home empty handed for his efforts. Even though Gaga gets first billing in the end titles, this is very much his story.

3. Gaga is another one that will win at least one. I’m hoping for two, actually. She deserves it.

I feel like we will see Gaga in a lot more musical films after this. She performs well although this is more of a film with music than a musical film.

Disclaimer: I've never seen any version of A Star is Born.

I enjoyed this film much more than I thought I would. It hits a lot of great notes, and has some amazing performances (Sam Elliott for best supporting please). I really do think Cooper could win best actor, he was superb. Gaga was......capable? IDK I wasn't blown away, but I do think she did a great job (I got super emotional during the scene where he pulls her on stage). I also was glad they had a small nod to Garland at the very beginning (if you knew what she was singing)

I don't know if there were any nods to Streisand tho. Overall it was an enjoyable if not a little heartbreaking time at the theater.

Streisand won an Oscar for Best Song for co-writing the song “Evergreen.”

It’s a wonderful, sad movie and I think is on its way to be a big, big hit.

Gaga is very good and will be nominated for Actress and will probably win Best Song. Cooper is EXCELLENT and unless Christian Bale or Timothee Chalamet are really great, this is his award to lose.

But Sam Elliot gives the best acting performance. His work elevates Cooper’s character, and he makes a meal out of a role that will surely win him some awards.

Also, shout-out to three Broadway vets: Anthony Ramos and Ron Rifkin do really nice work on screen, and Michael John LaChuisa provided additional lyrics.

I know, but I don't know if there were any nods to Streisand in the new film like there was for Judy.

Saw this last night and loved it! Gaga and Bradley are amazing. The last song “I Will Never Love Again” will be a hit and likely win the Oscar. It’s the next “My Heart Will Go On” or “I Will Always Love You”... such a great movie!!

Just got back and liked it but didn't love it.  Bradley Cooper is excellent.  Lady Gaga is very good.  Found it all a bit too sad and slow, but was definitely impressed by the leads.

Saw this a few nights ago at a screening at my college... I didn't like it, and neither did most of the people there. The music is phenomenal, and several scenes are so aesthetically stunning that it's incredible. Plot was predictable and boring, dialogue was confusing, and I wasn't a fan of the montage used to develop a lot of their relationship (not a spoiler). Saw it for Gaga, will download soundtrack for Gaga, but overall, I was underwhelmed.

What do you mean the dialogue was confusing? Were they speaking in a different language?..
