I'm going to be in the city tomorrow and figured I'd leave what I see up to the lottery gods since I've already seen Hamilton, DEH, Come from Away, My Fair Lady, Bands Visit, Dolly, Harry Potter, Once on this Island, etc. Lost a few lottos already and planned to enter more tomorrow. However, I just saw the Pretty Woman opens tomorrow night and there are a few seats left in the rear mezz. I've seen a lot of theatre but never been to a Broadway opening night show. Is it worth going for that experience alone? Or is it really just like being at any other show if you are a random audience member in the back as I would be? Should I go for it or just keep trying lottos and other discount ticket options for other shows?
Thanks!
Opening nights are super fun. There will an electric vibe in the air unlike other performances. You will see lots of celebrities for sure. This particular opening was supposed to be black tie, but they changed that requirement early this week due to the excessive heat expected tomorrow. It starts very early: 6:30.

That's true, but mainly because much of the audience is associated with the show (one war or another) and their guests (plus guests of the cast, who will be overwhelmingly supportive).

That's not always true. Musicals may be more likely to attract Broadway celebrities, but more often than not they aren't of the LuPone or Peters variety, more like pre-Hamilton Miranda. The truly famous are more likely to appear at plays with a famous cast.

That most likely only referred to the party, not the performance, since the theater is not going to refuse admission to the performance to anyone with a ticket. Anyone who bought a ticket would not be attending that anyway, so it's moot. Most opening night performances are scheduled to begin at 6:30pm, but I've never been to one that started on time (and in some houses, the ushers bet on what time the performance will actually begin).

Several things. I have been to a ton of opening nights, and most of them start at 7PM, not 6:30.
You are correct that almost every opening night starts late, and this one probably will too. However, the RSVP confirmation email says that the performance will begin at "6:30 SHARP", so I would not show up at 6:45 expecting to arrive by curtain.
As to celebrities, I've seen Broadway, film, tv, music, and news celebrities at almost every opening night I have been to. I suspect that tomorrow should be very celebrity heavy because:
A) The lead producer is Paula Wagner who is a veteran Hollywood producer, having worked with Tom Cruise on countless films, for example.
B) The late great Garry Marshall wrote the book, and his legacy is as Hollywood royalty. Whether you like his work or not, he created Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, and Mork & Mindy, just to name a few. In film, he directed Pretty Woman, Beaches, Nothing in Common, Overboard, and many more.
Given the above, I'm relatively certain that there are going to be a LOT of celebrities at tomorrow's opening night.
I think you should go for it. Plus, if you use discount code MAIL1 on Ticketmaster, most of the available seats are $79, which is a decent deal.
