Les Mis Audition- Help!#1
Posted: 8/14/18 at 7:37pm

Hi everyone!

Just for the record before I start- this is my first ever post and I'm not sure if I'm using this right. Forgive me if not!

My school is doing Les Mis (YAY) and the auditions are in September. We can't audition for a specific character, the director just told us to choose a song that shows off our ranges. At first, I was hoping to be cast as Cosette and I was going to sing Inside Out from Gentleman's Guide. But then I started to figure that because I'm *always* cast as comedic roles I could also go for Monsieur Thenardier (my school is all-girls so I have a shot at this).

Now, I know this is kind of bold, but I lowkey would be happy with either of these roles (I mean, I would be happy to be cast at all, but you know what I mean). I've been trying to find a song that could theoretically get me cast as either Cosette or Thenardier but I haven't had much luck. Essentially, I'm looking for a song that's comedic and mostly in chest voice but still leaning towards a classical musical theatre genre. Is this too weird of a request? Does such a song exist? Am I completely delusional?

Please comment if you have any ideas or suggestions :)

For Cosette you could sing Goodnight My Someone from the Music Man, People Will Say We’re In Love from Oklahoma!. You could also sing As Long As He Needs Me from Oliver!. That song would also be a great audition song for Eponine! For Monsieur Thenardier, the song “Me” from Beauty and the Beast would be good, If I Were A Rich Man from Fiddler On The Roof or You’ve Got To Pick A Pocket Or Two from Oliver!. Hope I helped! Good luck on your audition!
PS: the song “Home” from Beauty and The Beast woulf also be a great audition song for Cosette :)
