Does anybody know any good places to eat near Anastasia and Carousel?

Lots! Can you give us some hints? Casual, fancy? Sushi? American? Price range?

I know it’s gonna sound cliché, but I love Sardi’s. It’s truly one of my happy places. It’s very close to the Broadhurst and not that far from The Imperial. If you go on the weekends, ask for Sue. She’s an awesome server with lots of theater knowledge and has waited on many well-known Broadway actors. Because she’s awesome, her section tends to fill up quick. If you decide to eat there, I might suggest reservations. They also do a great job of getting you in and out before your show starts.

I second Sardi's.

If you like Pizza, John's on the same block is great (no slices - it's even on their t-shirts).

A block away, on the other end of Shubert Alley on 45th, Juniors serves up reliable, big plates of authentic deli food.

There's a Shake Shack on 44th & 8th, if you don't mind the crowds.

A fave of ours is technically next to the actual Imperial Theater (but not the entrance) on 46th is Pergola des Artistes, a tiny, wonderful provincial French restaurant - with delicious prix-fixe pre-show specials.

Danielas Trattoria has great Italian, Fuji Hibachi is good Japanese, Houndstooth Pub is just outside Times Square but good pub food.

Also, I will add that Sardi’s can look off-putting with the waiters in ties and the tablecloths. But I usually am not dressed up when I go. Sometimes I have been in a hoodie and this summer it was too hot, so I had on jeans and a t-shirt and sneakers, I believe.

I'm assuming you're aware that average price in Times Square is much higher than the average through the US as a whole.

Isn’t Average Price Range Casual American coincidentally the name of that new hot Off-Broadway play and also that new trendy American diner in Chelsea?

I think Average Price Range Casual American is the new "normcore" fashion boutique and app in Williamstown.

As a native New Yorker I love Junior's (which is right off Shubert Alley). It can get busy before shows as they don't take reservations but the prices are good, the food is good for practically everyone, and their cake is amazing (they're famous for cheesecake, which can be a selling point in case that's your thing). There's also a second location on 49th street.

I was so disappointed the last time I was there which was about a year ago for Sunday brunch. Service was slow and the waiter acted like he did not want to be there. Food was ok but nothing special especially at their prices. Sardi's had always held a special place in my heart because it was where I took my wife on our first date together many years ago and we both loved the "Chicken Sardi" which was a classic. I know everything is much more casual now but I admit I am old fashioned and loved it when everybody got dressed up to be there and it was the place to be. Since you and other poster wrote something positive maybe I will give it another try.

If I have to eat in Times Square I go to Los Tacos No 1 (but it’s not a sit-down place).
Otherwise venture a little bit for better food- like to Hillstone.

I ate there in June and loved it still. I even got Sue as my server after missing her my last few visits. I pretty much always order the same thing: at least one dirty grey goose martini, the crab cakes appetizer, the steak off the regular menu and the frozen cake for dessert. Oh, and at least one Malbec, which they spell Malbet for some reason. The pre-fixe menu is a great, more affordable option, too. I’m not saying it’s high cuisine, but the service, the atmosphere and the food always make me ridiculously happy.

Bourbon Street Bar and Grille, W 46th St.

Great Chicken Wings, believe it or not.

And, for fairly cheap Standard American, try Dallas BBQ on 42nd St.  The standard chicken dinner is actually quite satisfying.  and reliable.

City Kitchen food hall on 8th Ave between 44th and 45th, is a better than average food court with 7 different vendors and a range of good options.

^ ^ ^ Anyone ever eaten at Luke’s Lobster in City Kitchen on 8th Ave near W 44th St? I saw this chain on the Food Channel and have always wanted to try them.

Luke's is good, but I think a bit pricey for their serving sizes.

Thats true of most of the stalls at City Kitchen.

I second Bourbon Street Bar and Grille. Love their Bayou shrimp, we always ask for extra PoBoys to dip into that yummy sauce!

This is a very useful thread, look forward to trying a few of these spots. I had a good meal at Sardis recently, it surprised me because I haven’t ever eaten there.

I like Victor’s Cuban, better after the show because it gets crowded. Expensive also

Palms is reliable for steak

Toloache is good Mexican

Orso, always good but reserve ahead

Afghan Kabab House on 9th

Gotham West Market, lots of good options there

I had the shrimp roll at Luke's. Excellent but, as others have said, a bit expensive for what you get.

I like Beer Culture on 45th bet. 8th and 9th - great beer selection and tasty brats, tots, burgers and sausages.
