Absolutely. Billie Piper’s performance is extraordinary. One of the most lived-in, intense, visceral performances you’re ever likely to see. I can only imagine how it was live. The play itself is very much of the “watch a woman suffer beautifully” genre, which is often (and usually rightly so) viewed as mysoginistic. It could be especially true in this instance, given that it was directed and written by a man from an even older play also written by a man. But the cast is so all-around exceptional and the direction is so precise that its problems rarely get in the way of the way of the epic human tragedy playing out.
If you weren’t able to see it in person, absolutely go see the screening. Having seen both, nothing could ever match experiencing the production and that performance live. However, you owe it to yourself as a theatre goer to watch in a movie theater if you are able to.
