Riedel on the growing hype for Moulin Rouge! |

per the article - sources say it will arrive here in the summer of 2019, possibly at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, now home to “Kinky Boots.”"
Thanks Michael. If you forget to post your stuff here I forget to read it. Glad your stuff is back on the Post. Going to have to get back in the habit.
I wonder who’s gonna want to invest in a show with a $30 million capitalization.
Where is most of the money coming from here?
Didn't the article mention an Australian company who made millions from dinosaur shows is backing the show? Apparently they're also supporting the $40 million King Kong musical.
Looks like the NY critics will be seeing the show this weekend so I look forward reading their reviews next week.

Everyone on here always complains when a show opens out-of-town and has a Broadway opening lined up right after. For once, a show is taking its time to come in.
And if the reviews are mixed-to-negative (Riedel seems a little overenthusiastic based on what I’ve heard), it gives the team time to improve the written elements of the show, now that they’ve got the design down. Because at $30mm, it’s gonna need to run a looong time.
That was the more exciting news in that piece
A Grand Hotel revival sounds far more exciting. Moulin Rouge looks impressive but they lost my interest when they started cutting songs from the movie.

You did, along with Tootsie into the Marquis.
I hope they replace Olivo. I thought she retired anyway. Guess that was a publicity stunt. I tried to see her 4x in West Side Story, 3x in In The Heights and 2x in Murder Ballad-all unsuccessful. She has issues with long runs.
I missed her twice in WSS and once in In The Heights (I wasn't looking for her, just remember that she was out). I have to admit that I am surprised that they would give her the lead in a huge musical when she has such a rotten track record, in supporting roles. Seems to me that there are more reliable people they could get. She does not do much dancing in this show, certainly compared to Anita...maybe dancing injuries assent for her many absences.
I would replace her and Aaron, and keep the rest of the cast.

Absolutely. My main critiques were Karen and Aaron, the CORE of the show. John Logan's book. And the unnecessary musical additions and arrangements. If we have a Christian and Satine that we genuinely root for, the show has a better chance of working. Also the show, on paper, needs to be good.
What is needed is a major restructuring and rewriting and big workshop in town before the Broadway run.
I still think the Winter Garden is a better option for this show than the Hirschfeld and we already know for sure the WG will be open come January.
I wonder if the growing buzz will make them consider opening in time for the 2019 Tonys especially since it looks like another weakish season.

The producers are the same as the ones for King Kong, and supposedly they don't want this show competing with KK for the technical awards.

Ha. Funny, I missed her when she was in Hamilton as well.

Yeah that is totally the wrong theater choice. And I think waiting is a bad move. It sounds like the only real contender for "best musical" this year will be if "Girl From North Country" moves or if Tootsie is well-received.
