Mean Girls vs. Once on this Island

Question for those who have seen both Mean Girls and Once on this Island: which one did you like better and why? I only have room for one and cannot decide!

I enjoyed both experiences about the same, but I would give OOTI a slighter edge simply because it was original material and the production itself was innovative and exciting.

Mean Girls is flashy mindless entertainment and a fairly decent representation of a far better work, ie the film.

Once on this Island is way better. It's a magical production with a ton of incredible talent. I didn't particularly like Mean Girls. It's a downgrade from the film and is a very mediocre musical in basically every aspect.

Mean Girls on tour will appear much like the Broadway Production. Once on This Island can only be experienced in NY in its current iteration.

Once on this Island hands down. I really enjoyed Mean Girls and had a great time, but Once on this Island is truly special. The production is really unique and original and the one act show flies by.

THIS. I can’t imagine what a tour of OOTI would look like, but there will uncountable modifications. Mean Girls will likely be a replica.

I agree with everyone - go see "Once On This Island".

"Mean Girls" won't lose anything when it tours even in the mostly too large touring venues. OOTI , on the other hand, is in a unique space and must be seen in NYC.

echoing everyone else- OOTI is a JOURNEY. super emotional . you'll laugh and cry and feel everything.

Mean Girls, as fun as it was, was just mindless entertainment.

Mindless fun or beautiful art. Both have their places, it really boils down to what you’re in the mood for.

I feel OOTI is the stronger show overall. 

 

Mean Girls considerations

- easier to discuss with people who aren't in the thick of the broadway scene

- full length show

- likely to tour

- not a critical success

 

OOTI considerations

- easier to get an affordable ticket

- fantastic immersive experience 

- some consider the material to be a little dated in regards to gender politics, the show has tried to address it somewhat

- very unlikely to tour at all

- only 90min

- the lead is out for the next 2-3 months with a broken foot, however her understudy is also much praised.

I love MEAN GIRLS far more than most on this board, but the clear choice is ONCE ON THIS ISLAND. MEAN GIRLS will be running for a long time, and touring. ONCE ON THIS ISLAND is an experiencethat cannot be be replicated.
