Significant Other as a movie? |
I actually think it would work better as a film than it does as a play. I loved the play, but I found the character doubling and frequent changing of location frustrating. The play clearly wanted a larger cast and fully realized locations, which could be easily done on film.

Couldn't agree more! Fabulous idea. It feels ready-made for the screen.

established producers/ director tried to option it this summer with this exact thought and the writer/ his reps turned down even entertaining an offer. it would be great but like so many theatre properties - a smug assumption that the piece will someday attract a huge price tag keeps most nyc theatre pieces from ever reaching the screen.
CJ14- is that for real? Why wouldn't Harmon want his work preserved on film, especially when the play is apparently so suited to the medium?
If what you're saying is true for many writers, it doesn't make much sense to me. I know that (if I were in his shoes) I would love to have one of my plays explored in a cinematic form. As long as my work isn't bastardized in the adaptation, I'd be honored and even willing to revise or collaborate...
Is there something I'm missing here?
CJ14 doesn't know what they're talking about. I'd love to see this on HBO as an original movie or maybe even a one camera tv series???? I could also see this fitting in perfectly with other Netflix original movies...
