I was at Ripley-Grier rehearsing my one man show about my severe struggle with chronic pneumonia (I will post more once I find the proper, cheap venue.) and in the studio next to me it said ZERO DARK 30 - Presentation....

If my hearing still serves me (Debatable...), I heard Christine Ebersole sing an aria and Mandy Patinkin sang a song in Arabic.

Does anyone know more about this project? NYFM? Fringe? Cherry Lane Theatre?

Given the political leanings of both Ebersole (a conspiracy theorist) and Patinkin (an avowed liberal), I don’t see either of them participating in anything that would resemble “propaganda.”

My name is neither "adam" nor "greer."

You kill me

C.I.A. is A.O.K.

Waterboarding means I love you

They can't see you in the dark

Booyah

And the rousing 11 o'clock number...    Yes, it's him

I feel like I am back in the 2012 Oscar campaign with these shots about the film.

I’m hearing this is from the same team that gave us the Hurt Locker musical, which unfortunately closed after intermission.

Yeah, it really bombed.

Who knows? It could be good. But honestly, it seems like a terrible idea.

When I first saw this thread title I thought, what an awful idea, but it’s also the type of thing that is just so crazy that it might work- especially if talents like Ebersole and Patinkin would be performing the material. After safe, boring and uninspired shows like HOH, Gettin’ the Band and Pretty Woman, I would totally be up for seeing what the lunacy of a Zero Dark Thirty musical might bring.

(Truthfully it would probably be better as an opera, but if this is true I wish them luck.)

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

My initial reaction is it sounds like an awful idea. However, maybe it'll finally be a good thing that a musical will explore some of the actual causes of 9/11 rather than sweep it under the rug like Come From Away.

"It’s the fractured quality in [Bernadette Peters'] singing voice and line readings that puts across the character as someone for whom resentment is sliding into madness." - NYtimes on Follies (2011).

It won't be that. Like the movie, it'll be a pep rally for US government killers. Focus on the most popular kill in US military history to distract from the ongoing, cowardly drone murders of Middle Eastern families.

If you think that Come From Away swept the truth of 9/11 under the rug, then you clearly either haven't seen the show or know what it's about.

I have seen the show and in defense of the show, it's not about what I want it to be about. It doesn't attempt to tackle the issue of why 9/11 happened because that's not the story it aims to tell (it would be far more brave and noncommercial if it did).

It's a lot more pleasant to watch people who "Come From Away" get along with each other and put their differences aside to cooperate (a major theme of the show) than to address why these differences lead to the tragedy in the first place. No one really wants to do anything about this - it just insidiously continues behind closed doors until it leads to another tragedy, and another tragedy, and another tragedy, and another tragedy.

It is telling A story of 9/11 not THE story of 9/11, based on what happened in their town because of a tragedy. So it is telling a truth of a people in a place on a day.

it always amuses me when people who are too much of a coward to serve always love to run their mouths about the people who do serve. "US goverment killers" ::eye roll:: give me a break bro. give up at least 4 years of your life to serve this country THEN feel free to talk all the s**t you want.

But will it be as good as Hurt Locker the Musical?

When the towers fell
The world was set in motion
A love across the ocean
Grew where bombs fell
War, they say, is hell
But through its many dangers
Two lovers who were strangers
Hold each other under your veil
We found sanctuary in the hurt locker
A spot of safety on the roads
Love can be scary in the hurt locker
It's tender and it's raw
We're filled with shock and awe
And we will be consumed
When love explodes
We will be consumed when love explodes

I assume his criticism is more directed towards those pulling the strings not those pushing the buttons.

Actually, I think I'll just go ahead and feel free to say what's on my mind. Enlisting in the army is not a prerequisite for that. Spending years of my life fighting wars I believe to be unjust sounds like a bad choice for me, and I'm ten years too old to join the army anyhow.

This is possibly the stupdest idea for a musical, a musical, ever.  And all of you trying to give these reasons are just going off the rails.

and don't you for ONE second forget that the reason you are "free" to say whats on your mind is because of people who sacrificed their lives for that freedom.
