The Kennedy Center Announces 2018 Honorees CHER, PHILIP GLASS, REBA MCENTIRE, AND WAYNE SHORTER TO RECEIVE 41ST ANNUAL KENNEDY CENTER HONORS
This is fabulous news, especially for Cher. (via Michael Musto Facebook)
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
Will Lin and his HAMILTON collaborators be the youngest recipients of the KC Honors? They seem a little too young for a Lifetime Achievement (even though the Hamilton $$$ probably provides them with a salary for a lifetime).
And wow, TWO women who could have replaced Bette in Hello, Dolly! are being honored!

Agree 100%. Not a fan of this decision considering the long legacy of the KC Honors. Hamilton obviously does not lack for recognition, and even if KC feels the need, it could have been done in many other ways.
Isn't this...the regular annual KC honors? Like for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts? Like that usually is for people with long, impressive careers that are kind of towards the end - not the beginning - of their lifespan? WTF are they doing with the Hamilton stuff? So f-ing weird.

This sounds like a Les Moonves request for more younger eyeballs for the telecast.
It’s about ratings, and their ratings haven’t been good. But it’s too late to honor Hamilton. It’s still popular, but not nearly like it was. Fatigue has set in. I’m happy for it, and the rest of the honorees (Cher!!!), but we’ll see if America tunes in.
Im am sorry but the fact they choose both Cher and Reba should be enough to get eyeballs and there was no need for Hamilton. Cher is the all time queen of Pop, and they should easily be able to get the likes of Madonna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce... to perform an honor her
Reba is third in line of Country royalty aftee Loretta Lynne and Dolly Parton so I can’t imagine them having any problem securing Top country artists to honor her.
If they were honoring pure acting talents, composers, high arts talents (dance, jazz, classical, Theater), or producer/cultural icons like Oprah or Norman Lear, I could understand the need to try and find eyeballs with Hamilton, but Cher and Reba clearly negate that need.

Anyway, it seems like getting a KCH is only a matter of getting a Broadway bio-musical made about you? Carole King, Gloria Estefan, and now Cher. Wonder where Donna Summer got lost in the shuffle. Again, these ladies totally deserve the honor but the timing is very coincidental. I also want to see it being awarded to Liza, and possibly Bette Midler.
