Are you talking about criminalizing speech because of how other people react to it? That's an absolutely horrifying idea. People should be able to say anything they want - other than direct, specific threats of violence - without fear of reprisal from the government. (Of course, they're not shielded at all from natural consequences from friends, family, and employers.)

I agree, kdogg, and even though some might like to twist the First Amendment to mean what they want it to mean, there are a few hundred years of legal precedent demonstrating that only things like explicit incitement to violence, libel/slander, plagiarism, perjury, blackmail, and child pornography aren't protected by it.

I was wondering how long it would take for you to resort to a personal insult. 3rd reply. Not bad.
"

What’s personal? I don’t know where you live. You could be In Timbuktu for all I know or care.

Though you are more likely in Egypt around The Nile if you cannot see that America’s problems with poor education where children cannot read leaving school or where people are living off stamps for food contributes to poor mental health. When the mind is broken when there is no hope only despair it’s refelcted on the body. And it’s written across America.

I know it’s difficult for Americans to confront the problems in their society but they have to.

Of course I meant the use of "misguided" as the personal insult. But I imagine you knew that.

No it’s not. Civilised societies living in the modern age not looking at an outdated constitution, the world laughs when an American drops that word, can actually crimialse online comments. Trolls have been successfully tried in the UK. In Ireland there are laws protecting people from online bullying being brought through by elected representatives.

Its called progression. <<edited by BWW staff>>. Free speech isn’t freedom to be ignorant or hateful. It’s time to grow up as a nation.

"<<edited by BWW staff>> your constitution and <<edited by BWW staff>>  free speech."

Well, that's a conversation ender right there, isn't it? Can't go much further than that...

"Yes your judgement is <<edited by BWW staff>> build a bridge and get over it."

More personal insults. Lovely.

Sweetie no... this is not the direction we should be going in. Take away freedom of speech and you're setting a terrible precent that allows anyone in power to criminalize any speech or action that goes against their agenda.

Ok, this discussion took an unnecessary and concerning turn. So, we will be locking this thread now. It's disappointing, because the thread seemed to genuinely be productive and positive in its discussion for the majority of the time, until a few people decided to hijack what was otherwise a healthy exchange of ideas. Have a good day.
