WAITING FOR GIOVANNI at the Flea#1
Posted: 7/22/18 at 1:38am
Saw this last night. It was high on my list as I have been waiting for a play about gay black men (we have 2 playing now!) And especially because it is about James Baldwin.

A bit slow in parts during the first act. The book could use a bit of trimming and tightening up but all in all it was a great evening of theatre.

Done on a practically bare stage with a few props amd some nice lighting amd music.

Joy Sudduth as Lorraine Hansberry was wonderful as was Neil Dawson as Richard Wright.

The play is about how Baldwin struggles with publishing his book GIOVANNI'S ROOM. I liked the way the book "came to life", so to speak.

Some history thrown in and things that will make you truly think. A very diverse audience last night, which was nice to see. It should be seen by gay males from every background. Especial black males. But it was great to hear one of the two young gay white males in front of me as we were leaving turn to the other and say "I am so glad I came with you to see this".

The power of theatre.
Just give the world Love.
