I would still like to see Judy Dench in the film somewhere. Maybe the Gus theatre cat song. Maybe Zac Efron or Sean Mendes as rum tum. James cordon as skimbalshanks. Mckellen as Gus. Jennyandots Meryl or Bette midler.
Really I would like is to be a list of a listers from multigenerational theatre, film and recording.

I’d like to find a role for:

Andre Bocelli
Barbra Streisand
Celine Dion
Hugh Jackman
Catherine Zeta Jones
Bette Midler
Meryl Streep
christine baranski

And then fill it with Broadway dancers
Ryan Steele, Charlie Williams, Callan Bergman ...

If it’s taken 35 plus years to bring cats to the big screen. The names show be as big as the spectacle

and if so, CGI cats as cats, or CGI people as cats.

Because if it is cats as cats then there wont be any dancing, and dance is the main focus of this show.

I suspect it'll be live-action with CGI cats aided by motion-capture? It'll look ghastly.

I wish the animated Spielberg adaptation had come to pass.

Swift could be Bombalurina or whoever

Corden's Skimbleshanks. There's no other role that'd fit him.

I've seen a casting notice for this requiring a "very high standard of dancing" (and singing & acting) so I'm assuming it will be live action rather than CGI.

It just all seems very bizarre. Also why is James Corden in literally everything?

I can see him in this more so than Skimble, unless they totally abandon the original choreography because Skimble is a tough dance.

And yes I'm bodyshaming, I dont think anyone wants to see him in a leotard dancing around and expect to be taken seriously, its fine in his crosswalk things as those are done for comedy.

Ian McKellen would also be a great Old Deuternomy if he could hit those notes, but chances are he will be Gus

Cordon could be Munkustrap.  The character doesn’t have much of a personality, but does seem to be the one organizing everything. I can see Corden playing him as a sort of harried party planner type.
