Next in today's bizarre theatre news. I guess if someone's gonna do it, MJLC is appropriate.

"Today's bizarre theatre news." Exactly! Between the impending West Side Story revival, potential thespian EGOTs from the Emmy noms, Bobby Steggert's article, the Green Acres musical, and this...it has been one strange week.

And this gets filed into the ever-increasing box of stuff labeled “WHY?”

Really, just why?

I thought it was a well done play. I don’t believe it was screaming for a musical adaptation.

I for one think anything can be made into a musical, so my question is always "why not" and "ooo how?".

I mean it's an odd choice, but so was a kabuki-jazz infused musical inspired by Rashomon and 9/11. He's never really been known for having conventional ideas...

What a stupid idea!  Cost of Living is a beautiful play.  Turning it into a musical will add nothing.  Did Martyna Majok have any say in this?

I'd be rolling my eyes if  this was anyone other than LaChiusa. He has consistently brought life and beauty to works that many thought couldn't be adapted into musicals.  He's always thought outside of the box, and has never taken a job because of the commercial possibilities. His work is challenging, but I've never been bored at any of his shows.
