I’m going to be in Boston for about a day and a half to catch some shows and it’s been many years since I’ve been there. Does anyone have any “Must-See” or “Must-Eats” to recommend?
I'm here right now through Friday. Someone here suggested the Boston Public Market for food when I came last year. It's all foods from around the area. I had some really good ice cream and pasta. My parents also enjoyed a bottle of wine I picked up for them.
I went whale watching and went on a duck tour. And while crowded, I did like the aquarium. The sea lions and penguins are my favorites.

There's a nice food market called Boston Public Market (not to be confused with the restaurant chain of similar name). It's all local food businesses....some for eating and some for shopping/cooking. Cheeses, fresh pasta, fudge, donuts. Not to be missed is Beantown Pastrami for a fabulous lunch.
Fanueil Hall is similar but all food stalls for eating. It can be packed, and it's definitley more touristy.
Non food things:
The aquarium, it's really lovely.
The Stuart Garner Museum is beatiful.
The Skywalk
Institute of Contemporary Art
The MFA
Mary Baker Eddy Library & Mapparium
Sam Adams Brewery (free tours)
And yes, OUTSIDE....visit the Public Garden/Boston Common, the Freedom Trail (with or without a guide)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I agree to visit the Public Gardens/Boston Common (right across the street from the Colonial Theatre). A ride on the Swan Boats is a must in the Public Gardens. Also, the Duck Tours Boats with give some history of Boston and some a nice tour around Boston.
Bumping up this thread for a question I have. Already have this trip planned out.
Has anyone ever gone to an event at TD Garden? If so, how strict was their bag policy? I see they say you shouldn't bring anything bigger than a wristlet. But, I was looking online and people were saying they weren't that strict. Just no backpacks or huge tote bags. Unfortunately, those responses were a few years old. The bag in question for me is a small to medium sized purse with a cross body strap. I'm just worried about showing up on Friday and being told I can't bring it in.

According to their website "Guests are also reminded that bags, backpacks, luggage, laptops, coolers, parcels, briefcases and like articles will be strictly prohibited from the facility. All guests will be subject to search, at TD Garden’s discretion, of their person and/or possessions (including women’s handbags of normal size that may be allowed entry after such search)."
Assuming your purse is "of normal size", they may search it but you should be OK. But you can contact them directly to verify. I'm sure they'll respond.
