I am taking my mother to Hello Dolly later this month and am looking for a relatively healthy restaurant to try either before or after the Saturday matinee. We are open to all cuisine (would prefer vegetarian) and trying to avoid major chains (Chopt, Sweet Green, Chipotle...)

Any intel you all can provide would be greatly appreciated

Dig Inn. It's a chain but not a "chain" chain.

It might be further away than you’d like (Flatiron District), but I’ve been intrigued by ABCV. The V stands for vegetarian. I have attended the other two ABC restaurants (ABC Kitchen and my fave ABC Cocina) so I can attest to the quality of the other two. Can get a bit pricey, but what else is new in NYC. Apple maps shows it’s an 18 minute commute via subway between ABCV and Shubert.

I'd probably take her to https://eatbychloe.com. It's a small chain, but as far as I know they're centered in NYC/have the majority of their locations here (elsewhere, just 2 in Boston, 1 in LA, and 1 in Providence).

P.S. Kitchen is FANTASTIC. I would definitely recommend stopping there.

As a vegetarian living in HK, I would suggest Al Horno, which is like “health food” Mexican. It’s not all vegetarian, but there are plenty of options including a quinoa/kale/corn burrito and a cauliflower/pinto mash burrito. All cheeses can be vegan if that matters to you.

Blossom is a vegetarian/vegan fast(er) food type place. They have a BBQ seitan sandwich that’s good.

Basera makes some of the beat palak panner I’ve had in the city and their garlic naan is tasty.

Plenty of Thai places around too.

For sit-down, one of my faves is Westville, though the closest location is in Chelsea. Still, not far. They have a fresh veggie market plate (you choose four sides from a handwritten list) and I’ve never had a bad one.

Hope you and your mom enjoy!
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

if you're willing to go a little south or east, there are 2 locations of beyond sushi (plant based sushi and dumplings) i'd recommend.  the bigger one is on 37th street between 6th and 7th ave.  they also have vegetarian tapas.  the other is on 56th street on the southeast side of 6th ave.  that location is small, but does have some tables.

there is also a place called Franchia on Park Ave between 34th and 35th.  they call themselves a Korean tea house.

that's where i'm hoping my family is taking me for my birthday in a couple of weeks.

and whizzermarvin, don't know if you've been to Brooklyn/BAM lately, but have you tried Next Level Burger in the new Whole Foods?

I love pure kitchen! I used to work in HK and would go here al the time. It’s sort of fast casual with a few tables, so it’s great if you’re short on time. They have great acai bowls and an awesome avocado tartine sandwich!
