I know that NBC (?) is doing a live broadcast version of Hair next spring, but does anyone think there's a chance that it'll be revived on or off Broadway for the 50th anniversary?

I doubt it since we just had a revival less than 10 years ago.

Plus, it was a pretty definitive, iconic production. I think it'll be a while before we see Hair on Broadway again.

That lady production, as iconic as it was, also fizzled out VERY quickly.

My name is neither "adam" nor "greer."

I 100% disagree.  The Broadway revival was waxed 35+ year old musical theatre actors throwing up peace signs.

There's no way to not call the original broadway Tom O'Horgan production definitive.

The 2009 revival was brilliant and moving. The original cast was sensational. The replacements(Ace Young, Diana DeGarmo, Annaleigh Ashford, Kyle Riabko) were very lackluster and it lost all its meaning and emotion.Word-of-mouth spread quickly how bad the replacements were and it closed 4 months after the replacements took over. Why they brought the tour in for the summer of 2011 was mind boggling as it was even more lackluster.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour will be starting up in Somerville, NJ on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City, MO(May 29-Jun 3) and is now then touring throughout Japan August & September 2018. Japan schedule: Tokyo(Aug 15-21), Kanagawa(Aug 28-29), Shizuoka(Aug 30), Osaka(Aug 31 - Sept 2).

my gut says it's too soon, but also, considering the current political climate and the fact that it is such a big anniversary, I think that the show could come back and be successful if the casting was done well.

HAIR requires a truly visionary director.

A Julie Taymor.

A Tina Landau.

A Rachel Chavkin.

Without a visionary director who has a visionary concept for HAIR, there is no need for a production of HAIR.

The last production still ran a year and three months, though the economy was also horrible and definitely impacted HAIR's sales (and a lot of other shows that should have run longer).

Didn't Les Miserables have 2 revivals in a 10 year span not long after the original closed???

I'd like to see it performed in a more intimate off Broadway space. I wonder if it's "classic" enough for Classic Stage Company. I could totally see John Doyle doing it, especially in that space.
