Help Broadway peeps!

My 16 year old daughter needs a ballad and an uptempo for college prescreens. She is ingenue, ethnic influence look - Italian, Middle Eastern look - and a soprano. Could anyone suggest songs that are not overdone and have some acting, even comedic (not required)? EVERYTHING she likes is overdone.THANK YOU

I'm more of a mezzo soprano or alto so I don't know too many songs but the first to pop in my head for a soprano range are "Waiting for Life to Begin" from Once on this Island and "Quiet" from Matilda
