1) How easy is it to get in if you're not a college student?

2) Would it theoretically be possible to sneak in a camera or an ipad of some kind and record the video?

To answer your first question, you don't need to be a college student. You just need to have a New York Public Library card. 

For question number 2. NO!!!! NO!!!! NO!!!!. it's a research facility that is a great source. It isn't a movie theatre. You're in a room, watching,  a show on a monitor. Furthermore, they make you check bags/jackets before going in, and remind you to turn off your phone, the person who works at the front desk there does make rounds to make sure that the rules are being followed. And, you have to have a legit reason for wanting to see a particular title. Saying that you want to for kicks isn't a legit reason. They make you fill out a form with your name what institution you're with (school, local theatre etc) and why you want to see it.

Even if you were to bring in a recording device, you'd be recording it off of a small television and there'd be no sound, as they use headphones.

And e room also has security cameras looking at you the entire time you’re in there. So no, you’re not getting away with recording anything in there.
