Tony Nominees Calling Out |

Last year, DHP called out of the Saturday Dolly matinee, and we had a bunch of people missing from Comet that night, including Groban.
Caissie was out for both shows on Saturday at Frozen. Patti did the matinee but Aisha did the night show.
5 out in OOTI- 3 principles, Alex, Hailey, and Kenita- It was the understudy's debut for Ti Moune, Lauren Lott is gone and Alysha was out as well. Courtnee was her name and she was spectacular!

I saw it that night and Groban was in; Amber Gray was the only one out. However, Groban, Denee Benton, Lucas Steele, and Amber Gray were all out that matinee, if I'm not mistaken.

Five?? wow! Is that normal before the Tonys or are they just sick or exhausted? I like seeing understudies but five is a lot to understand.

Neither. They're unprofessional.
Harvey Fierstein, who only missed 1/2 a performance (did Act 1; understudy went on for Act 2) during his 2 year run on Broadway in HAIRSPRAY, used to fine the young cast/ensemble when they missed a performance. He found it unprofessional and bad work ethics.

It sounds like a nice lesson-teaching tactic, but was he allowed to do that?

In what possible capacity?
Also, the notion it is unprofessional to miss a performance (whether for a scheduled absence, illness, etc.) is itself unprofessional. Unless someone knows the person is just being lazy or whatever, that's ridiculous.
re OOTI, my guess is that they were all out because they needed time to rehearse the Tony performance more than the <<edited by BWW staff>> running things over there had planned for.
I don't follow your logic. Hailey had one line to sing at the Tonys and the ensemble that was in were some of those in the opening number of the Tonys and then had a complete costume change for their number, so...I was completely happy with all of the performers we did see, and honestly those saying Alex was robbed and sang the roof off radio city didn't hear his understudy who truly blew the roof out of the theatre with her vocal acrobatics that were superior to his on the Tonys.

No. Who's rule could it be?

Definitely not a rule. Last year Ben Platt called out for Thursday onward before the Tonys! And how would that be enforced?

And Alex has an insanely demanding role & probably needed to be in vocal rest for the Tonys. Everyone on these boards just hates OOTI for no reason smh... it won, get over it."
Not true. I hardly read anything negative about OOTI. There was a lot more negativity regarding Carousel and more criticism directed at MFL while some OOTI fans were trying to paint the show was some victim while going on a covert campaign against the other two shows.

On the BWW boards? I’ve seen nothing but OOTI slander, no one has even mentioned that they won a ****ing Tony! I’m a diehard OOTI revival fan so I may be biased but it is simply ridiculous.

Yes. On this board and social media. I noticed it from OOTI fans months ago. They targeted MFL for a while and Carousel was easy because the production was just a mess that pissed off purists. Nobody said anything truly bad about OOTI and it seemed to have more across-the-board support and not many were attacking it. In fact as the Tonys came closer more and more people were openly supporting it while lamenting how it’d lose to such giant shows.

Agreed with your last statement - I was also at OOTI on Saturday night and thought Aurelia Williams was incredible as Asaka (I also saw Alex Newell in the role). As were all of the understudies that stepped in. I didn't leave disappointed at all with the performances I saw.

I’m not sure the number, but Hailey has definitely missed more performances than that.
