Easiest show to rush? |
Just got home from a week in NYC, saw:
Hello Dolly
The Band’s Visit
Carousel
Phantom
Anastasia
Spongebob
Mean Girls and
Frozen
Of those shows for Hello Dolly I walked up at around 5:30-6:00 and got a partial view balcony seat for 39.00, however the view was quite partial as I had to lean all the way forward to see anything, and I have heard that they do sell orchestra seats for 39.00 as well. For Band’s Visit I was able to line up around 8:00-8:30 and was about 5th in line, however it was a double show day, and they do only offer 10 rush tickets per performance, so plan accordingly. Seats were in the boxes and the view is pretty great with only a few minor moments missed. For Carousel, I also arrived in line at around 8:00-8:30, 5th in line, on another double show day, however the four in front of me, were all getting matinee tickets so I was able to purchase the first evening rush ticket. Excellent seats, second row, front Mezzanine on the far left hand side, right on the inside aisle, perfect view, no obstructions! For Phantom, I was able to purchase a standing room ticket, for the Thursday matinee, day of, 29.00. Dead center rear orchestra. However, due to Mezzanine overhang, several moments are missed. The day prior, we had inquired about tickets and they also offered 45.00 orchestra seats, so depending on budget those are also available. The show is in fantastic shape, with a particularly excellent cast at the moment, and the Thursday matinee, is a great option, if you don’t want to miss out on seeing anything new, since Phantom is the only show to currently offer a Thursday matinee. For Anastasia, I arrived about 8:00, fourth in line, 42.00 rush tickets, also only 10 sold per performance. Seats were in the boxes, however were terribly obstructed, with a giant speaker blocking over half the view, and the seat next to mine’s entire view blocked. For Spongebob, I was able to get a last minute rush ticket at around 1:00, for 30.00 in the last row of the balcony. Again, not the best view as the Palace is absolutely massive, however between standing to see the scenes done on the passarelle and folding my chair up and sitting a top the folded chair, the view was manageable. However, if that doesn’t sound enjoyable (much as I found the show to be ??), they offer higher priced rush seats at, 50.00 for Mezzanine, and 75.00 for Orchestra. For Mean Girls, there is no traditional rush offered, except on Wednesday’s, which I have heard is quite maddening, unless you wish to camp out in front of the theater overnight. However, I entered the in person lottery, and didn’t win, however there were about 50 people present. Seats are front row and 42.50. However, if you don’t win be sure to get in line on the right hand side of the theater as directly after all the lottery winners have purchased tickets, as the Standing Room and cancellation line forms. Only between 8-10 Standing Room tickets are offered, and they are 30.00, one per person. I was able to get in line fast enough to be one of the 8-10, and the view is perfect. Spots are behind the last row of seats in the orchestra, and with next to anything happening on a second level, you miss nothing! For Frozen, I was able to purchase a ticket on StubHub, about a day before I left for the trip, for 39.00! Seat was in the rear balcony, row G. View was perfect, with no obstructions. I have seen other offered at around 49-59.00, which is still an excellent deal, considering balcony seats go for 70-80.00 at the box office. Hope all this helps, and have a great trip!!
