Since we just got word that Carousel is performing Blow High/Blow Low (hopefully with something else...._ does anyone happen to know what any other musicals are performing on Tony night?

my guesses would be;

Mean Girls: Meet the Plastics (showcases everyone, lots of mines from the movie)
Spongbob: (Not) A Simple Sponge. (Brilliantly staged, and really shows off Ethan Slater)
Frozen: Let It Go (I honestly doubt Disney would do anything else)

I’m hoping for “Get Me to the Church” for MFL!

I doubt Frozen is Performing Let it Go as they just performed it on The View

I actually think it would be smart for mean girls to do Where do you belong! It’s a big production and has great energy. Also showcases the huge ensemble and the choreography.

I assume Mean Girls is doing Stars or possibly a medley. I saw something that mentioned Kerry Butler being involved in the Tony performance and shes only in a few things

You know that’d be cool if they do a medley of where do you belong and meet the plastics. I think that’d be a really good performance.

All I want (besides a room somewhere Tony Performances ) is for My Fair Lady's performance to be a medley that concludes with Lauren Ambrose's singing "Could've Danced All Night." To record her singing the last few moments of that song for posterity would be a blessing.

The Band's Visit will also hopefully be a medley which at least features "Omar Sharif" and concludes with "Answer Me."

For Mean Girls, an extremely abbreviated "Where Do You Belong?" plus "Meet the Plastics" sounds great to me, too.

I'm not really sure what Frozen can do at this point, since they've broadcasted the only two good songs from the show in the past week. But if they do "Hygge," I'm turning my television off.

I really hope SpongeBob does I’m Not a Loser. It would really bring down the house! (Though I’m sure they’ll want to show off Ethan Slater in some way. Maybe they can do part of Simple Sponge leading into it.)

Maybe Frozen will do Fixer Upper? I agree that they won’t do Let It Go or The First Time In Forever since they’ve already broadcast them. And hey, Fixer Upper has a great message.

I really don’t think Band’s Visit should do Answer Me - it’s gorgeous in the show, but kind of sleepy out of context and without the turntable. I’m assuming they’ll either just do Omar Sharif alone or with Welcome to Nowhere as a medley. (Hoping for the latter to show off some of the humor in the show, but Omar Sharif would still be excellent.)

I feel like I’ve said this before, but I’d love for Once On This Island to do some of One Small Girl leading into Waiting for Life. It writes itself so perfectly since OSG reprises itself at the end of WFL. (I’m also being selfish since OSG has been one of my favorite musical theatre songs since like the 6th grade.)

Frozen should so a mix of 'love is an open door' and ' what do you know about love' to show how much of a floosey Anna is, lol

I'm wondering if SUMMER or MARGARITAVILLE will be performing?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I would guess that if Jimmy Buffet wants to pay to do a number with his cast, they won’t say no.

Mean Girls is doing "Where Do You Belong" into the intro of the Plastics.

SUMMER is performing, per someone in the cast. Not surprising since the Tonys have long done away with the rule only Best Musical nominees can perform.

Does anyone remember which show first broke that rule? I'm blanking. LEGALLY BLONDE? 9 TO 5? It was something with brand recognition CBS wasn't going to not have on the broadcast.

BJR,

I can remember the 2008 Tony Awards as being the first. That was the year when there was only 3 musicals that opened in the season that weren't nominated for Best Musical or Best Revival (A Catered Affair, The Little Mermaid, and Young Frankenstein), and the Tonys put them on in a quick brief trio performance. Then, they included Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys and others years later to showcase that Broadway wasn't just New York, it was touring all over.

While some years early bent the only nominated tradition, 2014 was the year that really stands out in my memory as the year that that they just killed that tradition and buried it 6 feet under. That seemed to be the year they realized they could make some extra money if they allow ANYONE willing to PAY to perform.

In addition to the 7 shows that got nominated, they had additional pay to perform numbers from If/Then, Bullets Over Broadway, Rocky, The Last Ship, Cabaret not to mention the Jennifer Hudson Finding Neverland WTF moment was that year. They performances were not as big or elaborate in MOST cases as the nominated shows but that seemed to be the point when it became more the norm to expect non nominated shows to just pony up the cash to perform for the exposure.

I was about to come say that because as great as the song is and the staging is, it did not really translate well to the TV screen and I think gives the wrong impression of what makes the show good and makes you want to go see it as whole. Really hope we see "Not a Loser" on Sunday now because a show stopper like that is a much better call for them now.

I hope either:

No one does a medley.

OR

Someone figures out how to do a medley well.

I really would not mind if The Band's Visit does "Omar Sharif". I think Lenk NEEDS to be showcased.

What I really want more than anything is for My Fair Lady to do "I Could've Have Danced All Night" in almost its entirety (even if there's a medley) and let Lauren Ambrose do her thing up there. As much as I enjoyed "Get Me to the Church" in the show, I could easily sacrifice that to give Ambrose more time.

Per friends associated with the production, Band's Visit will indeed be doing "Omar Sharif"

I bet that MY FAIR LADY does a medley - Sher's big shows have in the past. I could see something like "Loverly" into "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" into "Get Me to the Church On Time".

FROZEN is doing something that will probably feature Young Anna and Elsa (or some portion of Do You Wanna Build a Snowman) based on at least one set piece being built for the broadcast
