Tammy Duckworth is only a first term senator, but she wouldn’t be bad. A veteran, mother, young, a minority, likable.
Corey Booker. More of a moderate democrat, but still pretty likable by the more progressive folks.
One of the Castro twins(or both)

I don't know why, but I have the strangest feeling that you have already started about 2 or 3 threads on this subject, South Florida. Which is fine, and I am certainly not judging, but it feels like we've already been through this charade.

I, just like you, am equally aware of the supposedly growing field of Democrats that we might have in the 2020 election. Unfortunately, I am definitely not the one to comment; madbrian is a whole lot better than me, considering I'm only a newbie!

If anything, just not Bernie. Who's to say that he won't be screwed over again?

And Perez's endorsement of Cuomo plus every other Deomcratic group that has endorsed Deval Patrick are slightly ambivalent to what the Democrats really need in 2020.

We shall see!

Former Vice President Joe Biden said recently that he has not ruled out running for President in 2020.  He will make a decision by the end of this year.  I would be very happy with a President Joe Biden.

Fresh faces and new blood- the Dems can't let themselves get caught up in the backroom politics. The electorate need to see it is NOT "more of the same old-same old". Or else ( I can't bring myself to write it)

Who will run?

The usual pack of socio/psychopaths on one side, the usual batch of wishy washy nincompoops on the other.  I'll have to vote for the nincompoop, having no hope at all that they're capable of dealing effectively with the evil of the other side.

Like every other election.

I honestly believe Biden is the only candidate who has the bravado, experience and middle class roots to beat Trump. I have a huge feeling he will run and I will be honored to vote for him.

Solipsist you have extraordinary insight into past threads for someone who has been here 2 weeks.  Sometimes I laugh out loud at the neophytes who pretend they just got here.  Anyway, Biden's down home style gets him people from all sides and he would be an exceptional candidate.  Being a Bernie guy I'm worried about the Socialist label and how stupid America is when it comes to that word.

Seeing Colin Powell's brief appearance on the Memorial Day shindig on PBS reminded me of a time when we thought he would switch teams and join the Dems to run for Pres. Even though he has the black mark of his UN speech defending the invasion of Iraq on his conscience, could he lead a new Democratic Party forward in 2020?

Joe Biden would have been a great president. However, I think his time has passed. I think the last thing we need is an old white guy. My first choice would be Kamala Harris. She is relentless in Senate hearings, and the thought of her debating Trump is enticing. I would put Perez or Castro as her VP.

Last year I felt like we needed the straightest, whitest, non-polarizing cookie cutter male democrat to beat Trump, as America didn't seem ready for a female President.  A lot has changed since then, with the MeToo movement (though Trump still seems strangely immune to this backlash), and if they could get a great female candidate, with minimal skeletons in her closet, now would be the time to do it.  I'm fine with a Jell-O mold or a lawn rake being Presdient, as long as we can get Trump and Pence office.

Can Kamala Harris energize the working middle class like nobody's business? I think if you're running in 2020 you have to be able to do that. Democrats need to bring back the blue collar middle class. I think dems need a moderate running in 2020.

Solopsist go away, MadBian has better insight?  A true newbie, why be a scam?  There have been a lot of moderate Dems mentioned in here who are part of the swamp, Corey Booker was for pharma companies before he was against it.  Don't think that true Socialist Libs will not be going through these candidates with a fine tooth comb, and if they don't measure up they will be swatted.

Most Americans hate Trump. Unfortunately, for various reasons worthy of their own thread, too many people couldn’t vote for Clinton, and either stayed home or voted 3rd party, and Trump was able to thread the unlikeliest electoral needle with only 45% of the vote. Coupled with his disastrous performance as POTUS, along with ME TOO/TIME’S UP, he should be very beatable in 2020. That said, apathy could be the biggest opponent, but everyone should have learned that lesson by now.

If I am not mistaken, you ALWAYS post threads on this (I'm not necessarily as new as you think I am, considering the fact that I have lurked and perused these boards for many years now.) Also, I'm guessing you didn't take the time to read my whole message, considering you posted two messages on my original message, which is low for a quote-on-quote "veteran of these boards."

What makes me chuckle at just the thought is since you always start threads on this, you are truly desperate for a new, fresh Democrat to take the reins of that broken party. I do not belong to either side, but I am looking forward to hopefully voting blue in the 2020 election! That is, if the candidate can at least make a dent in this fractured political system we have (Bernie tried and failed the first time, who's to say the "revolution" will make a return in 2020?)

Serious question: are the former Bernie supporters now the "resisters", because it honestly makes a lot of sense! Young people with no viable future, trying to speak out against the government (which is obviously warranted), jobless, some homeless people in there, that spew NEVER TRUMP and RESIST

Blah blah blah, give me a break...

(I say all this as a non-Trump supporter, seeing how he is a boorish ignoramus that has wrecked the office of the Presidency, but carry on, oh fair South Florida; at this point, it's your only function!)

Slopcyst you admit you can't hold up and are a past citizen, or weirder yet you've been monitoring these boards for years and just decided to enter. You shame yourself, don't give up your true identity and just go away and be less obvious.  Why do losers need to reinvent themselves?

Funny enough, I had always voted third party (Libertarian usually, Green once) before 2016, but decided to vote for Clinton as the most direct way to oppose Trump. I remember, the day I voted, that I assumed I couldn't be unique: I had to stand for a bunch of previously alienated voters who would assure Trump's decisive defeat. Unfortunately, two things intervened: this country is full of human garbage, and Democrats are generally incompetent.

Anyhow, simply opposing Trump won't be enough to get my support in the future. However, if the Democrats start to run candidates who truly offer a counterpart to Trump and Republicans on matters of militarism, xenophobia, NSA spying, and related "national security" nonsense, they will earn my lasting support.

And the craziest part is that I have actually been here since that day listed with when I officially joined as a member. I am no one from the past, SF, and I never was!

Carry on, darling...

And so what if I want to keep my identity a secret? That is no one's business except mine (and perhaps the mods too.) Also, look both ways before calling newbies losers (or was it neophyte? I'm sorry, your incessant rambling about the future of the Democratic Party really threw me for a loop.)

I have no interest in Biden. Love him, time to move forward. Please no awful milk toast like Tim Kaine - who was an AWFUL candidate.

I agree that the white middle class conservative "democrats" remain a significant issue.

Kamala will be an excellent candidate in 2024.

For what it’s worth, Dems are actually running on good, mundane, realistic policy issues. However, the media is so obsessed with Trump that you’d never know. I promise you, if you go listen to a Dem running for the House, you’ll likely be impressed. Fast forwarding to 2020, hopefully Dem frontrunners will be able to get their messages through the media circus.

Can anyone tell me what the democrats message is, in the coming midterms and 2020? I honestly don't have a clue what they've been doing since 2016. Criticizing Trump won't give them back the house and senate. I watch all the major political news channels and every time I see a democrat on, they're talking about Trump. So again, what is their message?

In regards to Biden, who else can win back the middle class? Honestly who? Biden IS Trump without the sexual misconduct and the racism. Biden is not politically correct. Hesitant trump voters could latch onto Biden.

I mean who honestly can't see this? Biden vs Trump in 2020. Biden would win in a landslide.

The last thing democrats should do is pick a nominee that is far left. We need a moderate candidate Biden can definitely check all the moderate boxes. But for godsake: what. is their. message? What's their slogan?

I voted Kamala Harris into office back in 2016, and find her positions on issues match mine in nearly every detail. By all accounts, she was a great prosecutor and might be a great Congresswoman. But believe me, there is no way she would be able to muster an entire country's support for a presidential run in 2020. She's been on TV a lot here in California during primary season, and I've got to say her public speaking voice inspires no great confidence. She suffers from serious "Valley Upspeak" and seems to completely lack the charisma gene that Obama had in such abundance.

I don't know about "far left," but the Democrats definitely should pick a candidate who provides a clear alternative to the new authoritarianism of Trump and the Republican Party. I'm not sure such a candidate could be described as moderate.
