The Next Step Musical Theatre Intensive for 14-17 year olds

Limited to 35 participants, The Next Step, offers a specialized musical theater intensive of musical theater workshops taught by Broadway professionals, for aspiring teen performers, ages 14-17, who have had some previous on-stage experience. The program is led by Broadway veteran, Kristine Bendul, and music director/vocal coach, Stephen Purdy.

The Next Step weaves traditional musical theater training into an immersive theatrical environment designed to give participants the opportunity to understand what it’s really like to be a Broadway ensemble member. Inspired by the landmark musical 'A Chorus Line,' The Next Step places emerging triple-threats into a setting that surrounds an authentic audition process for a Broadway show.

Each element of the 5-day event is designed to hone musical theater abilities, enhance interpersonal skills and cultivate the habit of discipline that dedicated theatrical artist need to have. Through singing, dancing, and acting workshops, participants will “discover their character,” be it an ingenue, a comedic performer, or a belting diva. Program includes an evening performance of 'Carousel' on Broadway and experience an exclusive talkback.

Over the course of the five days, they will channel this character in preparation for The Next Step Showcase, performed at B. B. Kings Blues in the heart of Times Square. Camp Broadway’s team promises a program that uses the process of exploring art to inspire a more self-aware young artist.
