Anyone here seen the current non-Equity tour of The Wizard of Oz? |
Their video told me all I needed to know. Though, they're probably sticking to the RSC script. I bet it's better than the Webber version we got a few seasons ago.

I saw it about a year after Wicked came through Tulsa on tour for the first time. I was not impressed. It’s not up to the standards of the movie or Wicked, that’s for sure. It’s skippable.
Just recently saw it in Hartford. The show looked good. The lightning in some scenes were very nice and the sets in some scenes looked good. The black and white in the beginning worked well as did the tornado. The lion was worth the price of admission too. Otherwise, a puny 5 piece orchestra did not fare well. Of all the ways to save a buck, that was not it. The Witch of the West also gave a great performance and got some good laughs and her flying monkeys did fly. I thought the Wizards scenes could have looked better but his head was still there, albeit projected on a small screen above a chair, it could have looked better. The nice touch was when he got angry and red smoke would shoot from 4 funnels in the lightning rig from the top. It was also nice seeing in the Witches crystal ball. For a Wizard of Oz fan, it’s a good show. For others, probably not worth the time or money.
