Syracuse announced today:

 

Jesus Christ Superstar - October 1st- 4th

My Fair Lady - December 10th - 13th

A Bronx Tale - February 18th - 20th

Miss Saigon - April 28th - May 3rd

An American In Paris - June 2nd - 4th

Riverdance - March 24th-26th as 6th show option

I’m impressed with Syracuse’s season, we rarely get shows that are in their first or even second years and honestly, rarely get equity tours.

Hamilton will also be in the 2020-2021 season.

That is because of the New York state tax breaks that encourage producers to begin the tours in the area.  Both Jesus Christ Superstar and My Fair Lady will be doing their on site rehearsals and tech processes at the Landmark in Syracuse, with five weeks in residence for each show.

The Clay Center in Charleston WV indicated that they’ll be announcing sometime around May 16th. It’s usually non-Equity National Tours with maybe one exception. Most all of the shows that come through there I’ve seen already in Pittsburgh a couple years before.

This is the first time that a show has teched Here inn Syracuse (besides the new Lion King tour). Utica and Proctors get the majority of them. I’m happy Syracuse is stepping up and getting some good tours in.

While My Fair Lady might be in town for total five weeks, JSC will likely only be in for three weeks, including performances. And this past fall, Syracuse launched the Fiddler tour. So now into a third season of productions utilizing the tax credit in the Syracuse market

DC's National Theatre has finally announced, and it's pretty terrible. From the announcement:

So basically, 3-4 shows that completely bombed, 2 non-theater shows, 2 repeats of stuff that has already been here recently, but now in non-eq tours, and 2 one-man shows. I was hoping the wait was to announce some exciting pre-Broadway tryout, like Mean Girls or Beetlejuice were in previous seasons. But no, it was apparently make sure they had this dreck nailed down.

I am befuddled by that National line up. Who are they looking to get to subscribe? How they package this will be interesting. I don't know if many people will look at this and say "sign me up for ALL of that." A quarter or a third of those will appeal to certain folks but only 'theater for theater's sake' people will be diving in for all of it. I am one of those people but even I'm having a hard time being excited about re-upping.

I thought after Spongebob and Frozen didn't end up at Kennedy they would be at National. I bet they'll be on the 20-21 KC lineup now.

What a deflating way to start the week.

SpongeBob is a non-union tour and the Kennedy Center exclusively only presents equity tours

Thanks! Once and Beautiful are actually the only ones I hadn't seen. I’ve already attended Waitress, An American in Paris, and The Color Purple national tours when they came through Pittsburgh in the 2017/2018 season. May have to go down to Charleston to check out the Carol King Musical and include it in with my 2019/2020 Pittsburgh lineup.

No it’t not. It’s just switching from a full production contract to an equity SETA contract.

THANK YOU for the clarification on the ONCE and BEAUTIFUL tours. I had to look up what SETA meant. I also know that the Pittsburgh CLO is doing ONCE as well, as part of their Summer Series, but it’s locally produced and not part of the touring production from what I understand. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Spongebob is comin to Toronto Dec 17 to 22. So full week. Not part of Mirvish. Playing The Sony Center. Or whatever silly namebthey are changing it to in the fall.

In Providence, if you had to drop one show, either Escape to Margaritaville (the world premiere) or Spongebob The Musical, which would you pick? (Trying to keep costs down and these two are the least likely to delight us.)

I will say that I went from being very skeptical about SpongeBob on Broadway to being an acolyte after I saw it. Nothing I’ve heard about Margaritaville made me or makes me want to see it so I would overwhelmingly vote for you to see SpongeBob and skip Margaritaville.
