I was just browsing TDF and my jaw dropped that Margaritaville is up for a whopping 23 dates. When do we think the Marquis will become vacant again? Labor Day weekend?

The show is an advertisement for the Jimmy Buffet brand, and will run as long as he'd like it to.

He has no financial stake in the show, though. Why would it be up to him?

I say it’s done the weekend after the tonys

And I remember this musical I remember their brilliance And I might never sleep again...

My friend is there now. Said it's really empty and Alison Luff is out. I think it's her first time missing but I'm not sure. I hope it runs for the summer since I'd like to see it again and I have a slot open in July for when I go back into the city.

I think Buffet & Co. keep it running just to advertise it for a tour starting in Aug/Sept 2019.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour will be starting up in Somerville, NJ on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City, MO(May 29-Jun 3) and is now then touring throughout Japan August & September 2018. Japan schedule: Tokyo(Aug 15-21), Kanagawa(Aug 28-29), Shizuoka(Aug 30), Osaka(Aug 31 - Sept 2).

I'm waiting until they give out comps to paper the house. Sounds like a disaster. Even SpongeBob is doing better!

For its many faults, I'd argue Spongebob has a better book and a better score. Yes, "better" is a relative term here, but the Margaritaville score butchered many of Buffett's songs and the book is...I honestly don't know how to describe what's going on in this musical.

Well, Spongebob is critically acclaimed and nominated for 12 Tonys so that makes sense.

As long there are old, drunk, stoners walking around Times Square looking for something to do....it will remain open.

Gettin’ the Band Back Together is Broadway Nickelback.

I didn't mean to bash Spongebob, it just isn't doing good at the box office. In fact, I saw it and I LOVED it! This season is a bit subpart though, in my eyes.

Are you entirely certain that he has no financial interest in the show?
Privileged information notwithstanding, for all we know he could have bankrolled the entire enterprise; and the individuals listed as producers could be nothing more than glorified General Managers - if that.

The lead producer is Frank Marshall who is involved in Parrothead Productions which Buffett is also connected to.

During my visit to NYC a few weeks ago, I entered all the lotteries to see what tickets we could get for DH and we won Margaritaville every single time. I believe 6 days in a row. So I’m guessing demand isn’t very high and in conjunction with no Tony noms, I don’t think it looks promising for this production.

According to this article that most of the shows advance sales are for the summer months so brighter days are ahead.

But, the show also already had taken out two loans when the this article is published in April. So who knows when this show is going to close.

Yeah, I think the Parrot Heads will be there in numbers once the kids are out of school and they can load up the RV to come to NYC up the 95.

Is it me or did this news kind of come out of Bet Hatikvah? Don't really know how/if it'll have any impact on its Broadway run.

Most certainly they will be long closed before then and retool the set they have now to travel. This makes more sense for the show. Take it to the Parrot Heads rather then expect them to make the trip to NYC to come to you.

I'm surprised they didn't just do a national tour instead of the Broadway run. I know the "straight from Broadway" cachet can be important, but this would have done better as a regional one-off with subscribers and Buffett fans buying tickets.

I saw the show, and won the lottery, like last week, and there must have been a row of producers in front of me, or potential investors, because I kept hearing someone say "Tuesday is our lowest day.." even the margarita sales seemed low. This is a show that I think would KILL at Stage 42 or a venue like that. It had a sizeable audience, just not one to sustain a Broadway show.

Very mean spirited of you. Do you really have a need to disparage the show's target audience as well as the show? There may be one or two Parrotheads who fall outside your stereotype...

i imagine this closes by end of summer but reemerges as an immersive thing when the margaretaville hotel opens in midtown in a few years.
