I don't think reliving this period of her life every night would be good for her mental health.

Some comedian, I forget who, described frequent collaborators James Taylor and Carole King as "either the mellowest crazy people, or the craziest mellow people, in rock and roll history." I agree- King probably looks at this part of her life as glad it's over, not something she wants to step back into.

And so we can finally get a Sondheim musical at the Sondheim theatre! 

I don't think it will last any more than another year on Broadway. Though I did see the show a week or two ago and it's still a really fun time at the theatre!

But a new show will probably be opening at the Sondheim in the spring.

This might sound weird, and/or misinformed, but I feel like the Sondheim Theatre would be too large for KISS ME KATE. As much as I like the show, it doesn't have the same kind of "timeless fun" that ANYTHING GOES offers. It's more of a "period piece," if you'll pardon the expression.

I think it would be smarter for Roundabout to pull a SHE LOVES ME and put this production in a smaller house.

I’d love for Kiss Me Kate to be in the American Airlines. Loved On the Twentieth Century in there, but I’d say Studio 54 is likely.

As of Sweat's closing last summer the plan was for Kiss Me, Kate to be the next RTC show at Studio 54 once they worked it out with Kelli's schedule. Not to say they couldn't change that, especially if Beautiful does close and free up the Sondheim, but that was the plan 9 months ago.

I don t actually like KMK (hate the Taming of the Shrew numbers), but I would point out that it was last at the Martin Beck, which is larger than the Sondheim (I think quite a bit), and seemed to fit fine.  

Does anyone know: is this intended as a limited engagement or is it open-ended?  I was surprised that the last revival was as successful as it was (which admittedly reflects my bias -- I just can't see it attracting huge audiences this time out).

Kiss Me Kate is a limited engagement, ending on June 30. This hasn't been officially announced, but it was on the casting call.

True West opens January 24 at the American Airlines, so it would likely overlap with Kiss Me Kate previews- so my guess is Studio 54

I went yesterday to see Kennedy Caughell as Carole and the mezzanine was full. Not sure of the orchestra though. Had a today tix ticket.

Getting off the topic of how much longer this will run, I will say that the box office people are less than genuine.   No signs on the doors over the weekend informing folk that Melissa Benoist was out, although it was well known that SAT and SUN she would be out due to a comic convention in San Diego and an understudy would be on.  When I was in line for rush tickets I didn't hear anyone mention to customers that by the way, Melissa is out today.  I knew this, but I didn't care because kennedy Caughell is a fantastic performer in her own right.  And I know Melissa's name isn't above the title, they're not obligated to say anything, but mentioning that a big name star is out is fairly common practice, though not 100% by any means.  A couple in front of me (must've been  tourists) said they needed 3 tickets and asked what the cheapest was.  box office person said we have rush for 40 dollars each.  Person asked where this was, and was told it was the back of the orchestra, full view. Person/tourist asked if there was anything closer, asked the box office person what in his opinion was the best view for the best dollar price comparatively.  Box office person said he had 3 in Row K of Orchestra for 169 each.   The person, who must've been a tourist/occasional theatre goer/or just plain wealthy said he'd take those.   Paid an extra 387 dollars to sit about 10-12 rows closer.  Now I know it's a customer's choice where they want to sit and how much they want to spend, etc, and the box office person brought in the theatre an extra almost $400, some would say the person is just doing their job - but when the person asks what the best price for a seat is comparatively for the dollar value, I'm disappointed that the box office person didn't just say that the forty dollar seats were fine.   I think you're really just taking advantage of a person who walks up and doesn't know anything about price comparisons in the theatre.

I'm not sure the debate here about box office. The guy asked if they had anything closer. 10 to 12 rows is a big difference to me and the guy had no problem paying the difference. Case Closed, Perfect Sale. ; )

@NiceWorks2 Maybe seats at the back of the orchestra are "fine" to you but they asked the person their opinion and they gave it and it's different than yours. That's life. There was nothing deceitful about what they did. People aren't stupid. You're not the only one who understands things. They were willing to pay more for a much better seat and they did. Maybe they were asking the best value OF SEATS THAT WERE CLOSER. I'm sure if it was your company, you'd actively try to talk people out of spending more money. Your expectations are entirely unrealistic. And maybe next time, don't eavesdrop on other people's conversations,
