Good Magic Shows in NYC? |
I'm not really familiar with the magic scene in NYC, but "In and Of Itself" is a pretty popular off-Broadway show that seems to fit your description.
I've only been to this one, but thought it was outstanding.

Another vote for Chamber Magic. It's dressy, it's a small crowd and you're invited to participate and stand around Steve Cohen as he does some of his tricks. We went 5 years ago and I would love to go back again someday!

Of course it's sold out for the weekend of her birthday but that show looks particularly cool.

Another thumbs up for Chamber Magic. Magician Steve Cohen is amazing and highly entertaining.
Another vote for In & Of Itself. It's a show that makes you think about identity and oneself. Amazing! No spoilers from me but I thought it was worth every cent!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'm going to go with the Chamber Magic show because it seems like it's more of an experience; we can dress up, it's less "theatre" like (it'll seem like it's more a gift specifically her the less theatre-y it is). Though, I'm definitely going to check out In and Of Itself another time because it sounds excellent.
