Hey guys! I was looking some advice about getting tickets for some shows.

I’m going to NYC at the end of June and it’s my first time there, but we’ve only got 3 1/2 days there before flying off to LA. We get in at approx. 11am on the Saturday, and leave mid-afternoon on the Tuesday. As of right now, we’ve only booked to see Waitress on the Sunday.

But I’ve been looking into some tickets for other shows (mainly Dear Evan Hansen and Mean Girls), and this is where my question comes from.

Would I be better entering the lotteries to one or both of these shows on the Saturday, or trying to get rush seats/day tickets, or should I book in advance and just pay full price?

Thanks in advance??

Not sure about DEH, but depending on how Mean Girls does at the Tonys it might be safer to get those tickets ahead of time

I'd say ahead of time for both. Rushing is a commitment, and I've heard the Mean Girls rush is insane (like line is starting at 4am). The lotteries are hard to win for those as well.

You could try doing the lotteries for every show and just seeing if you get lucky? Most shows do them and you're bound to win one. No guarantees though

Mean Girls only has a rush on Wednesdays (DEH doesn't have one at all), and the online lotteries for both shows (and the in-person lotto for MG) are extremely difficult to win. You're going to want to purchase in advance for those two.

The OOTI in person lotto is extremely easy

Entering the digital lotteries for Dear Evan Hanson and Mean Girls, the odds are very low you'd win that while you're in town.

In terms of the Mean Girls in-person lottery, I do have one tip. After the lottery is finished, a cancelation line will form to the right of the right most entrance to the box office. If you stake out a spot there before the lottery is drawn, you'll have a decent chance of getting an unclaimed lottery ticket (if someone wanted one instead of two), a last minute cancellation, or a standing room only ticket. They sell between 5-15 standing room only tickets per performance, depending on if patrons are utilizing the handicap designated spots.

I did that yesterday and ended up with a $30 standing room only ticket, which had an unobstructed view. The downside to that strategy is you might not know until like 40 minutes before the performance if you'll actually get a ticket.

For peace of mind, I'd buy tix in advance especially if those two shows are the main reasons you're going to NYC.

If you like risk/chance, then enter the digital lotteries for both and then enter the in-person lottery for Mean Girls. If none of those work, then do the cancellation line and last-minute Stubhub. If those don't work either, at least Dear Evan Hansen will be touring to LA in the near future.
